A few weeks ago I shared with you the first information on the third vehicle in the C-Cubed range, which would complete the range after the C3 and the new C3 Aircross. Today, a prototype has just been unveiled for the first time, and the result is a big surprise.
In fact, since the beginning of the C-Cubed program, the information reported a hatchback of months of 4 meters, the C3, followed by a compact SUV which has since become C3 Aircross as well as a classic trunk sedan intended to replace both the C-Elysée and the C3 L and sold in Asia, India and Latin America. The latest rumours suggested that this future car, codenamed CC22, would be a saloon in the same vein as the last C4 X and could have been called the C3 X.
However, the first photo of the development prototype seen in India sweeps away this information and these rumours, since this future CC22 is a coupe SUV, a sportier version than the recently presented C3 Aircross. On this one and only photo, the entire rear is hidden to hide the lines and the cut-out of the tailgate, but certain elements present confirm that this is indeed the future Citroën car. In fact, we can clearly see the upper part of the doors of the C3 and the C3 Aircross, which will therefore be shared, as well as the front wing, which seems to be taken from the C3 Aircross. It seems that this future C3 Aircross coupé will take over the entire front block, including the front doors, of the new C3 Aircross and that the entire rear will be modified, starting with the rear doors, whose cut-out is much more straightforward on the C3 or C3 Aircross. We also notice in this photo the central 10-inch touch screen, which would confirm that it is indeed a Citroën in testing and therefore the future CC22, which would be similar to a coupe SUV.
However, one detail in this first photo is disturbing: the wheels are much smaller than those on the C3 Aircross and seem to be similar to those on the C3 saloon, which has the disadvantage of making them look like space-saving wheels. This could mean that this is not a coupé SUV derived from the C3 Aircross, but another silhouette wedged between a coupé SUV and a notchback saloon with a classic boot, which would obviously include a tailgate, judging by the cut-out in the tarpaulin.
In any case, it's a good surprise that Citroën is preparing for us with this third car in the C-Cubed range, which could therefore be an SUV-coupé taking over the front part of the C3 Aircross with a clearly different rear part. A coupé-SUV version is therefore more than likely, which would spice up the range and which could perhaps also be launched in Europe, even if it would duplicate the C4. To be continued, but this first photo, which hints at more to come, shows that the next few months will be busy ones for Citroën.
