Since the beginning of the year, Citroën has recorded excellent performances in France and Europe, with a market share that is clearly moving towards the brand's target of 5% of the market, VP+LCV. The brand's good performances are taking place throughout Europe, including Portugal, where the brand recorded its strongest growth in February 2024.
Citroën closed the month of February in style, standing out as the fastest growing of the twelve main passenger car brands on the market, with an impressive 124.2% increase in sales compared to the same period last year. The brand recorded a total of 1,679 passenger car registrations in February, significantly outperforming the market's growth of 27.6%.
On the overall VP + LCV market, Citroën took third place with a total of 1,963 units delivered in February, recording growth of 76.1% in a market up 26.4% and strengthening its market share. On the commercial vehicle market, Citroën sold a total of 284 vans last month, representing a market share of 11.9%.
Second best-selling brand of the year on the overall market
With a total of 3,247 registrations, Citroën is the second best-selling brand since the beginning of the year on the overall market (VP+LCV). It recorded an increase of 47.5% in its sales volume, once again outperforming the market (+17.3%), allowing it to strengthen its market share here too, at 7.9%, compared with 6.3% in 2023.
In the passenger car segment, Citroën sold 2,609 vehicles in January and February, up 68.6% on a market up 18.0%. Its market share rose from 5.0% in 2023 to 7.2% in 2024, a gain of 2.2 points in market share. On the commercial vehicle market, Citroën delivered a total of 638 vans in the first two months of 2024, representing a market share of 13.4%.
C3 remains one of the Portuguese's favourite models
The continued success of the current generation C3 is clearly evident, as it is the fifth best-selling model in Portugal in the first two months of the year, with 677 units sold.
It is ahead of the C3 Aircross, with sales of 300 units, followed by the C4 (267 units). In terms of commercial vehicles, the Berlingo van is the leader with 226 sales, or 35% of the brand's sales.
Citroën is also very successful in the field of electric vehicles and is the best-selling brand in this market segment, including passenger cars and commercial vehicles. In total, the brand delivered 245 units, representing a market share of 7.1% compared to 5.4% in 2023. Electric cars therefore represent 7.54% of Citroën's total sales in Portugal since the beginning of the year. However, the situation will change with the arrival of the new C3, which has been well received with more than 620 pre-orders since 18 October and 125 firm orders in February alone. Very good figures for a car that is currently only available in the 100% electric version, with the thermal versions to follow shortly.
In conclusion, at the beginning of 2024, Citroën is back in the limelight and is making good progress throughout Europe, particularly in France and Portugal, but also in Italy, Spain and Greece. These performances should enable it to post good growth in Europe in February, following a very good January. The imminent arrival of the C3 at dealerships and the many new products launched this year should help the company to achieve the target set by Thierry Koskas.
