Citroën C3: number 1 in sales in portugal in april 2025

The Citroën C3 in red

The new year has begun under the best auspices for the Citroën C3. The brand's compact model has quickly established itself in numerous markets, positioning itself among the top sellers in rankings across France and Europe. This positive dynamic is confirmed and amplified, as evidenced by the excellent results recorded in Portugal, where the new Citroën C3 was the best-selling car in April 2025.

A promising welcome crowned by the "Car of the Year" title

The warm reception given to the new Citroën C3 in the Portuguese market has been evident since its launch. Quickly noticed for its bold design, versatility, and multi-energy proposition at a competitive price, the fourth generation of the C3 has clearly appealed to customers. This acclaim was significantly cemented by the awarding of the prestigious "Car of the Year 2025" title in Portugal, granted by a panel of 18 journalists representing the most influential national media outlets. This distinction is a strong signal of the new C3's recognition by automotive professionals. Consumer interest also quickly translated into orders, as, in just a few months, the new C3 recorded over 5,000 orders in the Portuguese market. This significant volume of orders already anticipated a notable commercial performance in the coming months, a trend that clearly materialized in April.

Confirmation in numbers: april sales leader

The sales figures for April 2025 in Portugal, recently published by ACAP (Associação do Comércio Automóvel de Portugal), confirm the success of the new C3. With 622 units registered, including internal combustion versions and the highly anticipated 100% electric ë-C3, the new Citroën C3 climbed to the top spot in the sales rankings. This performance is not limited to its segment; it surpassed all other models available on the national market, making the C3 the most popular vehicle among Portuguese customers in April.

This commercial success in April is a concrete demonstration of how well the new C3 meets the expectations of the Portuguese market. Its unique positioning, combining an expressive SUV-inspired design, generous interior space, and a strong value proposition, appears particularly relevant.

One of the new C3's major strengths lies in its multi-energy strategy. Citroën offers a comprehensive range that meets consumers' different needs and preferences. The 1.2 Turbo petrol engine provides an efficient and versatile solution for those preferring traditional powertrains. For a first step towards electrification, the C3 Hybrid 100 version, featuring 48V Hybrid technology, represents an interesting alternative, capable of completing up to 50% of urban journeys in electric mode without needing to be plugged in.

Beyond internal combustion and hybrid powertrains, the new C3 also embodies a strategic step for Citroën: making electric mobility more accessible. The ë-C3, the brand's first 100% electric B-segment sedan, plays a crucial role in this success. Equipped with an 83 kW (113 hp) motor paired with a 44 kWh battery, it offers a range of over 320 km according to the WLTP cycle, making it perfectly suited for daily use, including longer journeys. The relevance of this electric offering in Portugal is highlighted by the figures: out of the 622 C3s sold in April, 226 units were ë-C3s, representing 36% of the model's total sales. A significant proportion that demonstrates the appeal of the electric version in this market.

The new C3's leadership in April had a positive knock-on effect on Citroën's overall performance in Portugal. In a market that saw a 4.5% increase in April, Citroën's sales grew much more significantly, showing a 10.9% increase to reach 888 units sold. This growth, superior to that of the market, underlines the locomotive role played by the new C3 in Citroën's commercial dynamic in the country.

The success of the new Citroën C3 in Portugal is materializing in a spectacular way. With over 5,000 orders recorded in just a few months and this historic first place in national market sales in April 2025, the C3 has clearly found its place and is appealing to Portuguese customers. While the title of "lasting success" will need to be confirmed in the coming months by the maintenance of these strong results, the current indicators unequivocally demonstrate that this new generation of the C3 is exceptionally well on its way to achieving that goal. This performance in Portugal is a very positive signal for Citroën and for the new C3 in all the markets where it is being rolled out.
