Citroën AMI: out and about in Kuala Lumpur

Citroën Ami in Malaysia

Obviously, the little Citroën Ami will never stop surprising us. The one we are about to discover on the streets of Brazil's mega-cities has already surprised us on the roads of Malaysia, near Kuala Lumpur, after having been seen in Vietnam. New markets for the little Citroën? He's not so sure.

Nothing is final with Ami. Initially planned to be sold in 5 European countries, the brand's little chip has crossed the Mediterranean to make a splash in Tunisia, where more than 2,000 units have been sold, and is preparing to cross the Atlantic in 2024 to be sold in Brazil. From there it will be sold in Asia, in a region where megacities are legion and where it would have its place, but that does not seem to be the case, at least for this example photographed in Malaysia.

Indeed, these photos, taken on Jalan Duta near Kuala Lumpur, do not seem to show a development or test mule with a view to future marketing, since the number plates could indicate that it is a used example. by the royal family of Johor, which has other "exotic" vehicles in its collection, such as the Honda, although it is not sold in Malaysia.

The Citroën AMi on the roads of Kuala Lumpur

Anything is possible, however, as Stellantis has announced its arrival in Malaysia during the first quarter of 2024 with its own distribution of models from its Peugeot, Opel, DS and Citroën brands. Thus, the C4 and C3 (Indian version) have already been seen testing in the streets of Malaysia just like other models of the group, which could leave a marketing opportunity for Ami, even if the very characteristics of the small Citroën 'to prevent. In such a hot country, the Ami's lack of air conditioning and reduced cooling when the windows are open could quickly limit its distribution but, you never know, who could have bet that the Ami would be a success in Tunisia or that it would be sold in Brazil?
