Marketed since its launch in thermal and plug-in hybrid versions, the DS 4 range has recently been enriched by a simple hybrid version, which will be replaced in the coming weeks by a 100% electric version, thus committing DS to its new era of 100% electric brand.
Based on the EMP2 platform, the DS compact saloon was not originally intended to be a 100% electric version, but given the breakthrough that these engines have made in recent years, a breakthrough that has now stabilised, the French luxury brand has begun work on proposing such a version.
During the presentation of the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry collection, DS boss Olivier François announced that the brand would unveil the electric DS 4 in June, without of course specifying its characteristics. Although based on the same architecture as the Peugeot 308 and the Opel Astra, the future electric DS 4 will be distinguished by its electric powertrain. In line with its premium brand status, the electric DS 4 should benefit from a more powerful engine and a higher capacity battery.
For example, the future electric version of the DS 4 should benefit from an engine with more than 200 hp, which could be that of the current Peugeot e-3008, but with a different definition. The battery would also have a different capacity to that of its cousins from the Stellantis brands, with a capacity of around 60 kWh, which could bring the range of this electric DS 4 to around 450 km.
In conclusion, DS is a little late to the electric compact saloon game, but it has taken advantage of this delay to offer a version that is more in line with the standards of a premium brand, both in terms of performance and autonomy. . The upcoming presentation of the electric DS 4, confirmed for June, also marks the first step for DS as an exclusively electric brand, as from that date all future models will be 100% electric.
