Future DS 8: our exclusive illustration

A front view of the future DS 8

It has been hiding for a very long time under a thick camouflage that strongly hid its lines, but following the latest photos, we offer you the most faithful illustration possible of what DS is preparing for us with the future DS 8, which will crown the brand's range of French luxury goods in the coming months.

We have been following the development of this new large saloon at DS Automobiles for several months now, and have been surprised several times by photos taken during the development tests. Thanks to these photos, we were able to imagine what was really hidden under the thick camouflage and to guess the lines of this future large French high-end saloon.

First observation: if the future DS 8 will indeed be a large car, inspired by the sedan-SUV concept that Citroën is developing from 2020 and in line with the ASL concept that DS presented in 2020, the future large DS will indeed be a large, slender sedan and not a coupe-SUV as announced by other media.

This new DS proposition on the market will replace the DS 9, which was discontinued at the end of June, with a different proposition in the large saloon segment, as the future DS 8 will be powered exclusively by electric motors, putting it in direct competition with the electric versions of the BMW 5 Series or the Mercedes EQE, for example. But here, if the DS 7 is indeed a saloon, it will be distinguished by a high stance, as desired by the large wheels, and an increased ground clearance, which should allow it to dominate the road.

An illustration of the future DS 8 rear view

Taking up the stylistic codes of the E-Tense Performance concept, which will be offered for the first time in series production, the future DS 8 will have V-shaped light signatures that go down very low on the bumper at the front and rear, as you can see in our exclusive illustration. We should also see fine projectors at the front with their counterparts at the rear with fine lights and a very elaborate line, very cartoonish. A true 4-door, the future DS 8 will hide its rear door handle in the extension of the rear window.

Based on the STAL Medium platform, the future DS 8 should take over the 210 bhp engine of the new Peugeot 3008 at the entry level, and for the higher versions would have an output of around 400 bhp, quite enough to ensure recovery and performance. hair-raising thanks to the power of the electric motor.

In conclusion, the future DS 8 will herald a new era for DS, marked by a new design that should make an impression both on the outside and on the inside, which promises to be quite impressive. 100% electric, it will place the young French luxury brand in the energy transition, a strategy that should make it possible to zap the power of German mechanics, still important in thermal cars, which DS could not offer. The future DS 8, likely to be unveiled in September, will mark the third generation of DS cars, which will undoubtedly be one of the most successful and relevant.
