Citroën Sales August 2025: the european comeback is here, and it's spectacular!

Citroën's Range 2025

For several months, through my articles, I have been sharing a growing sense of optimism about Citroën's commercial health. I've told you about order books filling up, positive internal signals, and a new product range that seemed to be finding its audience. However, I am aware that these words may have seemed at odds with the registration figures we could all see, month after month. The brand has indeed gone through a difficult period, losing significant sales volumes and retreating in many markets. But August 2025, I sincerely hope, marks a lasting turning point and proves that the underlying trend is indeed what we anticipated. With strong and widespread growth in multiple European countries, it's time to take a look across the continent at this performance that brings a smile to our faces.

Solid performances in major markets

As you know, for a trend to be significant, it must be verified in the most important markets—those that set the tone at a continental level. On this point, August was particularly revealing. In France, our domestic market, Citroën recorded exceptional growth of +30.9%, far outperforming a global car market that grew by only 2.2%. This is an extremely strong signal. But the most dazzling performance comes from Italy, where the brand soared by +75.27% in a market that declined by 2.7%. To gain so much ground when the context is unfavorable is proof of genuine momentum. In Germany, Europe's largest market, the trend is just as positive with an increase of +36% against a market at +5%. Finally, in Spain, the brand also posted a fine progression of +15%, keeping pace with a dynamic local market (+17.2%). The sum of these excellent results in the four largest continental European countries will have a mathematical consequence that we will analyze in the coming days: a notable recovery of European market share for Citroën.

An impressive wave of growth surges across Europe

While the results in the major markets are excellent, they are only the visible part of a much broader movement. Indeed, Citroën's performance doesn't stop there; it is experiencing a true wave of growth in many other European countries, with figures that are sometimes staggering. Consider this: in Portugal, sales jumped by +89.1% (market at +7.8%), in Belgium by +35.8% (market at -10.95%), in Austria the increase reached an incredible +99.3%, in the Netherlands it was +79.1%, in Denmark +37.4%, and, the most spectacular performance, in Poland where the brand exploded by +158.36% in a market that fell by 15.50%. Of course, we must remain measured. Part of this growth can be explained by a favorable comparison basis, as August 2024 was a particularly poor month for the brand. However, this argument alone cannot explain such massive and widespread increases. Triple-digit growth, or close to it, in so many different countries, especially in declining markets, is an undeniable sign that the new product range is appealing. Above all, and this is a crucial indicator, the brand is growing strongly among private customers, a key target audience that shows Citroën's positioning—focused on comfort, audacity, and accessibility—is increasingly meeting customer expectations.

I understand that you may have sometimes doubted my optimism over the past few months. The raw registration figures were often contrary to what I was writing. However, having access to order figures beforehand, I knew this positive momentum was building, and I am delighted to see it finally materialize so clearly. In recent interviews, both Laurent Diot, Citroën's Head of Europe, and Edouard George, Head of Marketing and Communication, told us that the brand would have a strong second half of the year. The month of August has proven them magnificently right. The hardest part begins now: this trend will need to be confirmed over the last four months of the year to close 2025 on a decidedly positive note. But confidence is high, as the very first trends for the beginning of September in France, at least, seem to indicate even stronger growth. This is information to be taken with caution, of course, but it bodes well for the future. We will be following this very closely for you.
