Citroën's commitment to making electric mobility accessible to everyone is no longer a mere promise, but a tangible and aggressive reality in the automotive market. With its new ë-C3, the French brand has proven that it is possible to offer a high-performing, comfortable, and European-made electric vehicle at prices that defy the competition, even before government incentives are applied. After already making a strong impression with an initial "long-range" version offered from as low as €8,900 in Italy under certain conditions, Citroën is now doubling down by expanding its lineup with a more compact battery, designed for daily use and even greater affordability.
An aggressive pricing strategy against the future Renault Twingo
During the year, the Citroën ë-C3 range was enhanced with an "Urban Range" version. Equipped with a battery providing just over 200 kilometers of range on the combined WLTP cycle, this new variant is specifically designed to meet the needs of most daily commutes. Its main advantage lies in its price positioning: in France, it is sold below the psychological threshold of €20,000, before any green bonus. With this bold move, Citroën is not just offering an alternative; it is taking a significant lead over its rivals. While Renault had promised a highly accessible electric R5 without fully achieving its goal, the manufacturer is now pinning its hopes on the future Twingo, also announced to be below this price point. However, Citroën is not waiting and is already occupying the field, positioning itself as the de facto pioneer of truly mainstream electric vehicles without compromising on the essentials. Made in Europe, this ë-C3 is concrete proof that a well-thought-out industrial and commercial strategy can deliver today what others are only promising for tomorrow.
The Italian example: an "urban" ë-C3 available from just €6,900
While the starting price of the new ë-C3 is already exceptional without subsidies, it becomes truly revolutionary when government incentives come into play. The most striking example comes from Italy, where a particularly generous incentive policy allows Citroën to offer its "Urban Range" ë-C3 for a final price of €6,900, valid until October 31st. To achieve this rock-bottom price, several conditions must be met by the buyer. This includes qualifying for the maximum €11,000 incentive, which is conditional on scrapping an older vehicle of the same category (up to Euro 5 standard). Furthermore, the household's income, as verified by the ISEE indicator (a metric used in Italy to assess a family's economic situation), must be below €30,000. This offer, pending the official publication of the 2025 decrees, perfectly illustrates the ë-C3's potential to become the primary vehicle for many households, thanks to an acquisition cost lower than most internal combustion engine cars on the market. This offensive is part of the brand's broader momentum, which has recently renewed its entire lineup with the new C3 Aircross, C4, C4 X, and C5 Aircross, all available in 100% electric versions.
A relevant technical package for daily use
Far from being a stripped-down version, this entry-level ë-C3 retains the fundamental qualities that define the model's success. It is equipped with a 30 kWh LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery, a technology known for its durability and controlled production costs. Offering up to 304 kilometers of range in a purely urban cycle, it is perfectly suited for daily travel. Its 113 hp (83 kW) motor ensures versatility and remarkable driving pleasure, making acceleration and city maneuvering easy. Even in the entry-level "You" trim, comfort is not sacrificed, as the car comes standard with the Citroën Advanced Comfort® suspension. This brand signature ensures an exceptional filtering of road irregularities. For those who occasionally plan longer trips, an optional DC fast-charging capability of up to 30 kW is available, allowing owners to manage their budget while gaining greater flexibility.
Citroën, the true pioneer of affordable electric mobility
Citroën had already made a significant impact with its "Comfort Range" ë-C3, which in some markets was already available from €8,900 under specific conditions, while the future Twingo was announced with a starting price of €9,900. With the arrival of the "Urban Range" version, the brand widens the gap even further. Offered at €3,000 less than the expected starting price of its direct competitor, for what is anticipated to be a similar range, the Citroën ë-C3 is no longer just following a trend—it is setting it. By transforming its promises into a concrete, available, and ultra-competitive commercial offer, Citroën establishes itself as the true pioneer of electric mobility for all, permanently changing the rules of the game in the European market.
