Citroën in Austria: impressive growth in May 2025

The new Citroën C5 Aircross

For several months now, a fresh wave of optimism has been surrounding Citroën in Austria. The French brand, currently undergoing a profound transformation of its image and product range, is reaping the rewards of its strategy with remarkable success in this demanding market. This upward trend, observed since the beginning of the year, was strongly reaffirmed in May, as Citroën continued to post double-digit growth, demonstrating a perfect match between its updated offerings and the expectations of Austrian drivers.

A growth dynamic confirmed in May

The month of May 2025 was particularly telling of Citroën's new momentum in Austria. With an impressive 19.5% increase compared to the same period last year, the French brand significantly outperformed the market. A total of 643 vehicles were newly registered, consisting of 549 passenger cars and 94 light commercial vehicles. This outstanding performance boosted Citroën's overall market share to 2.4%. This dynamic is part of a broader trend; in the first five months of the year, 2,990 units were sold, marking a spectacular increase of 26.2% in the overall market.

Stephanie Haider, Managing Director of Citroën Austria, enthusiastically commented on these results, emphasizing the solidity of the implemented strategy: “This continuous positive development shows that Citroën is on a solid trajectory. With a growth of 19.5 percent in May and over 26 percent since the beginning of the year, we are on the right track. This growth is not only the result of our successful products but also a comprehensive brand promise. With ‘Citroën We Care,’ we offer up to eight years of worry-free mobility for our passenger car models, whether they are combustion or electric models. I extend my special thanks to our dedicated retail partners, who have made a significant contribution to this success.” The director's words highlight two essential pillars of this success: compelling products and a strong commitment to customer satisfaction, embodied by reassuring service offers like the "Citroën We Care" program—a powerful factor in the purchasing decision.

A reflection of a renewed range and the arrival of the new C5 Aircross

These excellent results are not a matter of chance but the direct consequence of Citroën's thorough product range renewal. The growth seen in Austria reflects the public's high appreciation for the brand's latest models, which combine bold design with benchmark comfort. Following the successful launches of the new C3 and C3 Aircross, which have been major contributors to this performance, Citroën is now set to crown this product offensive with a flagship model: the new Citroën C5 Aircross.

This new SUV recently made its Austrian premiere at a press conference in Luberegg. As Stephanie Haider explained, "Since the beginning of the year, the range has been completely rethought. The launch of the C5 Aircross marks another milestone on this path. As a true comfort SUV, the C5 Aircross, with its Advanced Comfort® seats, generous spaciousness, and efficient powertrains, offers what customers are looking for today: daily, stylish, and responsible mobility."

With this second generation, Citroën aims to enter a new dimension in the key compact SUV segment. The design is both powerful and elegant, while comfort sets new standards thanks to the famous Progressive Hydraulic Cushions® suspension and Advanced Comfort® seats. The interior, designed as a high-tech cocoon, features a large touchscreen and class-leading space. Technology is also at the forefront, with advanced driving aids like Citroën Matrix LED headlights and Drive Assist 2.0. Finally, its range of electrified powertrains—from a plug-in hybrid offering over 100 km of electric range to a fully electric version promising up to 680 km (WLTP)—perfectly addresses the challenges of modern mobility.

In conclusion, although the Austrian market is modest in terms of volume, Citroën's exceptional performance there is highly significant. It proves that the brand, traditionally strong in Southern Europe, is now successfully attracting customers in more northern and notoriously demanding markets. Citroën's robust performance in Germany further confirms this underlying trend. The positive reception of the new lineup shows that the strategy focused on comfort, design, and accessible technology is the right one. The upcoming arrival of the new C5 Aircross in Austria in the second half of 2025 is therefore logically expected to sustain this fantastic momentum. This Austrian success could very well be the prelude to consolidated growth that will spread across Europe, confirming Citroën's powerful comeback on the continental stage.
