Citroën continues to assert itself as a major player in the energy transition within the light commercial vehicle sector. In recent days, the French brand successfully delivered 30 electric Berlingo vans to the Slovenian Post Office (Pošta Slovenije). This operation follows a public tender in which Citroën was the most selected brand, demonstrating the relevance of its zero-emission vehicle range for professionals committed to reducing their environmental impact.
30 ë-Berlingo Vans serving slovenian deliveries
The 30 ë-Berlingo Vans delivered to Pošta Slovenije have been specially adapted to meet the specific requirements of delivery services. These modifications notably include the integration of a clever partition. This feature provides the driver with increased rear visibility during maneuvers while allowing the transport of longer items. The interior has also been designed for optimal functionality: the passenger seat can be removed to accommodate supports for the installation of two mobile desks. Concerned about durability, the vehicle's interior has been fully protected against potential damage, thus ensuring increased longevity even in demanding working conditions. Aesthetically, the ë-Berlingos sport the colors and markings of Pošta Slovenije, with distinctive elements highlighting their electric powertrain and environmentally friendly nature. These vehicles will be primarily deployed in urban areas of Slovenia, where the use of zero-emission vehicles is crucial for improving air quality and reducing noise pollution.
Pošta Slovenije's sustainability strategy and Citroën's success
The acquisition of these 30 Citroën ë-Berlingos is part of Pošta Slovenije's long-standing commitment to a more environmentally friendly fleet. The company already operates the largest fleet of electric vehicles in the country, currently comprising over 570 units. This gradual electrification, initiated in 2017 with the addition of the first electric delivery vehicle and continued in 2020 with the purchase of the first electric van, aims to reduce fuel costs and the company's environmental footprint. Alongside the acquisition of electric vehicles, Pošta Slovenije is investing in the installation of charging stations to ensure long-term operational efficiency.
The Pošta Slovenije Group aims to reach 32% of clean vehicles in its fleet by 2026, with an intermediate target of 29% for 2025. The company's commitment to sustainability is also reflected in its goal to reduce its carbon footprint by 31% by 2040, in line with the objectives of the European Green Deal to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.
During the vehicle handover, a representative of Pošta Slovenije stated, "With our new fleet of electric vehicles, we are not only investing in a greener future but, above all, in better working conditions for our employees. The comfort, quiet operation, and ease of handling of the ë-Berlingo vehicles will significantly contribute to greater efficiency and the satisfaction of our postal workers."
Citroën distinguished itself during the public tender for the purchase of electric delivery vehicles, securing the largest order. In total, Pošta Slovenije will receive 35 Citroën vehicles, including the 30 ë-Berlingos already delivered and operational in Slovenian urban and suburban areas. The Citroën brand emphasized, "With the ë-Berlingo, Citroën offers more than just a vehicle; it provides a complete solution for modern urban delivery. Thanks to its flexibility and efficiency, this model is becoming a key element in the electrification of commercial fleets."
With a comprehensive range of 100% electric commercial vehicles, from the compact Ami Cargo to the large Jumper van, Citroën positions itself as one of the few manufacturers capable of meeting the diverse needs of companies looking to make their fleets greener. This extensive and efficient offering allows the brand to conquer significant markets, as demonstrated by the Slovenian Post Office, which has massively opted for Citroën's electric solutions to modernize and make its delivery operations more sustainable.
