Citroën C5 X plug-in hybrid: Citroën's first electrified car in Australia

The Citroën C5 X Plug-in Hybrid in Australia

Citroën reinforces its commitment to sustainable mobility with the launch of the Citroën C5X Plug-in Hybrid in Australia. This large saloon, which combines the attributes of a saloon, a wagon and an SUV, is now available for order. The C5X PHEV marks a significant milestone for Citroën in Australia, as it is the brand's first electrified model in this market. Despite relatively modest initial sales, this plug-in hybrid version should boost interest in the C5X, which has been available in Australia for several months.

New era for Citroën in Australia

The 2024 Citroën C5X Shine PHEV will be priced at $73,990 AUD (€45,775) or $16,320 AUD (€10,100) more than the existing turbo petrol version. The price increase reflects the addition of advanced technologies and enhanced comfort and safety features. Citroën Australia Managing Director, Kate Gillis, expressed her excitement, saying: "The brand is excited to introduce its first electrified model, which upholds Citroën's design philosophy by offering customers a leisurely electric drive. "

Under the bonnet, the C5X PHEV combines a 180 bhp 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 110 bhp electric motor for a total of 225 bhp and 360 Nm of torque. This combination enables the C5X PHEV to deliver dynamic performance with remarkably low fuel consumption of 1.4 l/100 km. The 12.4 kWh battery provides up to 60 km of emission-free driving, making it even more attractive to environmentally conscious drivers.

A new sales strategy

Unlike traditional models, the Citroën C5X PHEV will only be available by direct order, with each vehicle built specifically for the customer. This approach allows Citroën to respond precisely to customer requirements while optimising production. Buyers who order now can expect to receive their vehicle in the fourth quarter of 2024.

Citroën's "Advanced Comfort" suspension, equipped with two progressive hydraulic dampers, offers exceptional ride quality, often described as a "flying carpet". Driving modes such as Comfort and Sport allow drivers to personalise their experience according to road conditions and personal preferences.

The launch of the Citroën C5X PHEV in Australia is an important step in Citroën's strategy to promote sustainable mobility. Despite relatively low initial sales of the C5X in Australia, this plug-in hybrid version is expected to attract new customers sensitive to the environmental and economic benefits of electrified vehicles.
