Citroën C4 Hybrid: on sale soon

The Citroën C4 in a white color

A few months after its arrival on the C5 Aircross, Citroën is about to introduce the new 48-volt 136 bhp hybrid engine on the C4 and C4 X. This new engine should allow the brand's compact sedan to improve driving pleasure while reducing consumption and emissions.

It was about time! Finally, the Citroën C4 will soon receive the new 136 hp Puretech engine with mild hybridisation via a small 0.432 Kw battery that will supply the brand's compact sedan during the recovery phases, allowing up to 50% of city driving in 100% electric mode thanks to a high level of energy recovery worthy of an electric car. This mild hybridisation allows a first step towards electrification in all its simplicity, at a moderate extra cost, which should be 1,500th of that of a C4 Puretech 130 EAT8.

Like its big brother, the C4 Hybrid is equipped with a 6-speed automatic gearbox which, combined with the small 22 bhp electric motor, makes driving more enjoyable by eliminating the noise of the Puretech engine in the first three gears with the EAT8 gearbox. It should be noted that the arrival of the 136 hp hybrid engine on the C4 will also be accompanied by an installation on the C4 X, which should therefore also increase comfort, smoothness and driving pleasure. In addition, the excellent aerodynamic performance of the C4 and C4 X was revealed: 5.5 litres per 100 compared to 9 for the C5 Aircross Puretech 130 EAT8. It is rumoured that, at the same price, the C4 and C4 X Hybrid will consume and emit less than their diesel counterparts.

The arrival of these new simple hybrid engines on the Citroën C4 and C4 X is a matter of days, they should be confirmed very soon for a launch that should take place immediately. This is excellent news for Citroën's two compact sedans, which should do wonders with this new engine, which is particularly efficient thanks to its small battery that recharges very quickly. The excellent comfort of the C4 and C4
