Citroën C3: The uncompromising european electric car conquering Europe

The Citroën C3 in blue

May 2025 will be remembered in Citroën's history as a major turning point for its electric strategy. The Citroën ë-C3 not only continued its momentum but also took a significant new step by leading electric car sales in Spain. This success adds to its already remarkable performances in France and Italy, thus marking a growing appreciation from customers for an electric vehicle proposition that is manufactured in Europe, uncompromising in its qualities, and accessible to a wide audience. This positive dynamic illustrates the relevance of Citroën's approach to market expectations.

The Citroën ë-C3: electric dominance extending across Europe

The performance of the Citroën ë-C3 in the electric vehicle market continues to impress. In May, it achieved first place in the ranking of "zero-emission" passenger cars in Spain, with a total of 576 registrations, representing a solid 6.4% market share. This performance is all the more notable as it confirms the trend observed in other major markets. Indeed, before conquering Spain, the ë-C3 had already demonstrated its leadership in France and Italy, highlighting an exceptional May for the model across Europe. This triumph underscores the ë-C3's ability to effectively meet the needs of European consumers looking for electric mobility. Its dominant position in the B-segment of electric vehicles, with a penetration of 38.7%, attests to its appeal and competitiveness against increasingly dense competition. Overall, sales of electric vehicles bearing the Double Chevron increased by 281% compared to May 2024, totaling 803 registered units and an 8.3% penetration rate.

Electric growth radiating beyond the ë-C3

The success of the Citroën ë-C3 is not an isolated event in the brand's overall performance. Citroën has also recorded excellent progress in other segments of the electric market, particularly light commercial vehicles. In May, the brand topped the monthly ranking of 100% electric commercial vehicles, with 143 registrations, an impressive 79% increase compared to May 2024, and a 19% market share. This leadership demonstrates Citroën's commitment to electrifying its entire range and offering solutions adapted to professionals. Furthermore, the Citroën Ami continues to play a key role in sustainable urban mobility. The New Citroën Ami dominates the electric quadricycle category in the cumulative market, with 181 registrations and a significant 48% market share, confirming its status as an innovative and accessible mobility solution for the city. It is also worth highlighting the excellent performance of the new Citroën C4. With 1,985 registrations in May, a growth of 153.4% compared to the previous year, it placed in the top 10 of the general ranking and asserts itself as the leader of C-segment sedans. These cumulative results for the first five months of the year are eloquent, with 25,003 registrations for passenger cars and commercial vehicles, representing a 4.4% market share for Citroën.

The dynamism of the Spanish electric vehicle market, stimulated by the return of Plan Moves III subsidies, has undeniably benefited Citroën. This government aid proves crucial for the development and adoption of electric vehicles, demonstrating that public support remains an essential lever for democratizing this technology. Beyond these aids, the Citroën ë-C3's proposition is particularly relevant. It embodies Citroën's vision of an uncompromising electric car: a strong, eye-catching style, generous habitability offering optimal comfort for all occupants, easy charging, and a range adapted to daily needs, all offered at a particularly accessible price. This unique combination of qualities seems to have created the offer the market was waiting for, allowing Citroën to position itself as a major and promising player in the electric transition. The success of the ë-C3 and the entire Citroën electric range validates an audacious and forward-looking strategy, where electric becomes not only a reality but also a desirable and pragmatic option for a growing number of drivers.
