Sales figures for the main European markets have all been published for the month of December, allowing us to draw some initial conclusions about the performance of the market and of Stellantis, including Citroën. The seven main markets studied here represent around 80% of sales and thus provide an almost perfect picture of the situation for this month of December 2024.
December was a difficult month for some markets, while others, such as Spain and Portugal, posted positive results with double-digit growth. However, in the seven countries analysed here, the market is relatively stable with a slight increase of 0.55%, with the Stellantis brands advancing in a scattered order.
In this context, Citroën's sales are up by almost 6% thanks to solid performances in France, Belgium and Germany, which offset the declines observed mainly in England and Spain. Citroën is up, as is Peugeot, which is showing good growth, but Stellantis is still affected by the decline in Opel and especially Fiat, whose sales continue to fall by almost half.
In this context, the weight of France falls below 40% for Citroën, while it exceeds 45% for Peugeot, whose performance in France therefore accounts for almost half of its sales. The same is true of DS, which still has to work to make progress outside France, even if its performance in Germany is significant, a sign that DS is managing to get its message across as a premium brand in such a difficult market.
In conclusion, the month of December should put an end to several consecutive months of decline for Citroën on the European market, even if its market share will still be low, below 3%.
