UK Electric Van Grant: Citroën confirms competitive edge with ZEVG support

Government support: a vital engine for the electric transition

While the shift toward carbon-free mobility is a stated priority for many manufacturers, the mass adoption of electric vehicles remains intrinsically linked to government financial support. Despite a natural decline in battery production costs, the purchase price gap between internal combustion engines and electric powertrains continues to be a hurdle for many businesses and private buyers. In this context, tax incentives and purchase grants act as an essential catalyst to stabilize the market and encourage the renewal of automotive fleets.

In the United Kingdom, the government has just confirmed news of paramount importance for the sector: the continued funding of the zero-emission van grant scheme. This strategic decision comes at a time when the British market is positioned as one of the most dynamic in Europe for electric vehicles. For Citroën, this announcement represents a major opportunity to consolidate its market share and reaffirm its commitment to making electrification accessible to all by facilitating the acquisition of clean transport solutions for companies of all sizes.

The ZEVG scheme: a major financial lever for van democratization

The British government has officially announced the extension of the ZEVG (Zero Emission Van Grant) scheme, formerly known as the Plug-in Van Grant (PiVG). The primary objective of this financial mechanism is to reduce the initial price premium associated with purchasing an electric commercial vehicle compared to its diesel or petrol equivalent. The good news for economic operators lies in the scheme's longevity, as this grant will be maintained at least until the end of the 2026/2027 financial year.

Specifically, the ZEVG scheme is divided into two categories based on vehicle size. For small vans with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of less than 2.5 tonnes, the grant covers 35% of the purchase price, capped at £2,500. For larger vans with a GVW between 2.5 and 4.25 tonnes, the 35% discount has a higher cap of £5,000. This financial support is automatically applied by dealers at the time of purchase, significantly simplifying administrative procedures for end customers. By directly supporting the purchasing power of businesses, the UK government is securing the decarbonization pathway for light goods transport.


A 100% eligible and competitive Citroën commercial range

Citroën is positioning itself as a central player in this transition across the Channel, with four flagship models fully eligible for these grants. The brand has structured its offering to cover all professional needs, from agile urban delivery to heavy-duty long-distance transport.

The entry point to this range is the new ë-C3 Van. Thanks to the PiVG tax, this model features an extremely competitive price of £19,937 including tax. Just above it, the Citroën ë-Berlingo, a segment benchmark produced locally at Ellesmere Port, also receives significant support. Equipped with Advanced Comfort® seats, it is available from £27,929.17 including tax after the ZEVG deduction (excluding VAT).

For larger requirements, the Citroën ë-Dispatch offers up to 352 km of range (WLTP) and a load volume of 6.6 m³. Its price starts at £37,684.17 after the grant (excluding VAT). Finally, the flagship of the range, the Citroën ë-Relay, benefits from the maximum £5,000 grant. With a range reaching 423 km (WLTP) and a rapid charging capacity of 150 kW (allowing a 5% to 80% charge in just 55 minutes), it is listed from £45,974.17 after ZEVG (excluding VAT).

The continuation of the Zero Emission Van Grant plays a vital role in providing reassurance to businesses of all sizes as they transition to all-electric fleets. We are proud to offer four electric vehicles eligible for this grant, providing more choice and better accessibility for our customers."

In addition to these attractive prices, Citroën, via Free2move Charge and its partner Octopus Energy, offers sole traders and SMEs a free home charging station with standard residential installation, worth up to £1,050 including VAT.


A global strategy for continuous growth

Citroën's involvement in UK grant programs is not limited to commercial vehicles. Historically, the brand was the first manufacturer to achieve eligibility for all its passenger vehicles under the government's Plug-in Car Grant. Today, the ë-C3, ë-C3 Aircross, ë-C4, ë-C4 X, ë-C5 Aircross, and ë-Berlingo (M1) all benefit from a £1,500 grant. In total, ten vehicles in the range take advantage of financial support measures.

This synergy between an aggressive pricing policy and public support is crucial in the UK market, where demand for electric vehicles is particularly strong. For Citroën, this total eligibility is a fundamental growth driver. Following a very encouraging first quarter in terms of sales, the brand now has all the necessary tools to continue its progress and convince both households and fleet managers to make the switch to electric mobility.
