The new Citroën Basalt: it has arrived in Argentina

The new Citroën Basalt 2025 SUV in red

A few months after its launch in Brazil, Citroën announces the launch of its brand new SUV, the Basalt, in Argentina. This model is the culmination of a major project to renew the Citroën range in Latin America, which has been completed in just three years.

An ambitious programme: C-Cubed, Citroën's relaunch in Latin America

For several years, Citroën has been implementing an ambitious strategy in this region with the C-Cubed programme. The aim of this project is to design and produce models locally that are perfectly adapted to the expectations of consumers in the region. Following the launch of the C3 and C3 Aircross, the Basalt completes the trilogy and completes the programme.

With its first SUV coupé, Citroën hopes to continue the success of the C4 Cactus, a vehicle that has been very successful in Argentina, where it was the country's best-selling SUV in 2021 and 2022. The Basalt therefore faces a major challenge: to consolidate the brand's position in the local market while at the same time meeting the high expectations of consumers. To meet this challenge, the Basalt features a range of engines adapted to the local market. Unlike in Brazil, where it is offered with the 1.0 Turbo Flex engine, only petrol engines are available in Argentina. The LIVE PACK and FEEL versions are equipped with a 115 bhp VTi 1.6 petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, while the top-of-the-range SHINE and 1st Edition versions have a 120 bhp T200 turbo engine mated to a CVT automatic gearbox. These configurations meet the expectations of Argentinean drivers who prioritise robustness and fuel economy.

Basalt, an attractive proposition for the Argentinian market

The Citroën Basalt SUV is offered in Argentina with a range of prices adapted to the local market. Here are the official prices, converted into euros at the current exchange rate:

  • Basalt VTi LIVE: 22,820,000 ARS, or approximately €21,450

  • Basalt VTi FEEL: 24,410,000 ARS, or about €22,950

  • Basalt T200 SHINE: 28.400.000 ARS, or about €26.700

  • Basalt T200 1st Edition: 29,290,000 ARS, or around €27,540

This diverse range will satisfy a wide range of needs, from those looking for an accessible entry-level model to those who prefer a high-end experience.

In a context of an 8.1% decline in the Argentinean automobile market in 2024, Citroën managed to hold its own, as the brand recorded a 16.7% increase in sales, moving up to 7th place in terms of sales. With the arrival of the Basalt, which completes its range renewal, Citroën now has an additional asset to strengthen its position and hopes to see its sales figures continue to grow in 2025.
