The Stellantis plant in Mangualde, Portugal, plays a key role in the production of the K9 range of commercial vehicles, alongside the Spanish plant in Vigo. Specialising in the assembly of the Citroën Berlingo, Peugeot Partner/Rifter, Opel Combo and Fiat Doblò, this industrial site achieved record results in 2024, confirming its growing importance within the Stellantis Group's industrial network.
A record year for Stellantis Mangualde
The year 2024 marks a turning point for the Mangualde plant, with a production forecast of 86,000 vehicles, an increase of 2% over the previous year. This is the highest volume ever achieved by the Portuguese plant since its creation in 1962.
According to ACAP, Stellantis Mangualde is thus positioned as a major player in the Portuguese automotive industry, with a share of 26.2% of the vehicles produced in the country. What is more, 95.5% of this production is destined for export, reinforcing the site's strategic role in the international market. This increase in power is accompanied by a growing impact on the local economy, particularly thanks to the revitalisation of the industrial and commercial fabric of the central region of Portugal.
Strategic investment in electric vehicle production.
In addition to its record production volumes, the Mangualde plant is taking a new step in its development with the production of 100% electric vehicles. From 2024, it will be the first car plant in the country to mass-produce electric vehicles.
To support this transition, Stellantis has made significant investments, including the installation of a new battery assembly line dedicated to these models. This infrastructure of more than 800 m² has enabled the creation of 63 new jobs and the specific training of technical teams to meet the requirements of electrification.
Thanks to these developments, the plant now assembles a complete range of electric vehicles, including the Citroën ë-Berlingo and ë-Berlingo Van, as well as their equivalents at Peugeot, Opel and Fiat. These investments demonstrate the Stellantis Group's desire to accelerate its commitment to more sustainable mobility and strengthen its competitiveness in the electrified utility market.
Despite its modest size compared to the Group's other industrial sites, the Mangualde plant has demonstrated its ability to evolve and adapt to new market requirements. With a sustainable production rate in 2024, it is operating at full capacity and has a positive outlook for 2025.
The introduction of electric production should further increase production volumes and ensure the sustainability of the site. This momentum positions Mangualde as a key element of Stellantis' industrial strategy in Europe, in particular to meet the growing demand for electric commercial vehicles.
