Despite a period of transition following the departure of former CEO Carlos Tavares, Stellantis continues to develop its activities and define its industrial strategy. The group recently announced that the future STLA Small platform will be produced at its Spanish plants in Vigo and Zaragoza, confirming their key role in its European industrial network.
The future of the Vigo and Zaragoza sites is secured.
Stellantis has formalised the award of the STLA Small platform to the Vigo and Zaragoza sites. This decision is based on several key factors: the competitiveness of the two plants, the know-how of their teams, a favourable social climate and the active support of the local public administrations. These elements have enabled Vigo and Zaragoza to establish themselves as strategic pillars of the automotive industry in Spain.
With the arrival of the STLA Small platform, Stellantis is strengthening the future of both sites for the coming years. This new platform, designed for B-segment models, is a key element in the Group's electrification strategy. Although the exact models that will be produced there have not yet been revealed, this announcement confirms the sustainability and importance of these plants in the Group's ecosystem.
Madrid: A changing future
The Madrid plant, located in Villaverde, also plays an important role in the Stellantis Group's strategy. It currently produces the Citroën C4 and C4 X, the redesigned versions of which have just gone into production. In the short term, these two models will keep the plant busy.
Beyond these two models, however, the future of the plant remains under discussion. Stellantis has stated that it is working on several scenarios for the Madrid plant, without giving further details at the moment. Although there is information about the possibility of producing a future Citroën in Morocco, there is no official information to confirm that the next generation Citroën C4 will leave Villaverde. What is certain is that Stellantis intends to maintain activity at the site, while adapting its strategy to market developments and industrial needs.
The STLA Small platform is the last of Stellantis' four global platforms to be unveiled. Multi-energy, it is designed to offer a range of up to 500 km in 100% electric mode and to guarantee great flexibility. Following the launch of the STLA Medium, Large and Frame platforms, the STLA Small completes an ecosystem that allows Stellantis to meet a wide range of customer needs in terms of electric mobility.
By awarding the STLA Small platform to the Vigo and Zaragoza plants, Stellantis is demonstrating its ability to move forward despite the current obstacles of industrial transition. This announcement also highlights the strategic importance of Spain in European industrial policy. By ensuring a solid future for its production sites, Stellantis reaffirms its confidence in its electrification model and its commitment to sustainable mobility.
