Stellantis and Iveco have announced a strategic partnership in the field of electric commercial vehicles. This collaboration will allow Iveco to market two electric van models developed and produced by Stellantis under its own brand. This initiative, part of a ten-year agreement, aims to strengthen Iveco's range of electric vehicles while optimising Stellantis' industrial capabilities.
A strategic agreement for electric mobility
Under the agreement, Stellantis will produce two fully electric van models for Iveco at its plants in Atessa (Italy), Gliwice (Poland) and Hordain (France). These vehicles will then be distributed through Iveco's official network in Europe, including the UK.
Jean-Philippe Imparato, Stellantis Chief Operating Officer for Greater Europe, is delighted with the alliance: "We are proud to be working with a world-renowned Italian company such as Iveco. This collaboration is the result of our leading position in the European LCV market, based on our operational excellence, the quality of our products and our ability to develop electric propulsion technologies capable of reducing pollutant emissions and protecting the environment".
For his part, Luca Sra, President of the Iveco Group Truck Business Unit, underlines the importance of this agreement: "We are delighted to add two innovative and versatile electric vans to our range of light commercial vehicles, thus strengthening our competitiveness in the utility segment. By choosing Stellantis Pro One as our partner, we are taking advantage of the in-depth know-how and strong presence in Italy and Europe that our two companies have historically shared. I am convinced that this fruitful collaboration will benefit our European customers, in particular for the success of their last mile logistics activities".
Stellantis, a key player in the electrification of commercial vehicles
Future Iveco electric vans will be based on platforms developed by Stellantis, with a GVW ranging from 2.8 to 4.25 tonnes. This collaboration demonstrates Stellantis' strong commitment to electromobility, which is reflected in significant investments in the development of innovative and sustainable solutions.
By increasing the production of electric vehicles, Stellantis also hopes to optimise manufacturing costs and make the energy transition more accessible to companies. Indeed, mass production reduces battery costs and improves the competitiveness of electric vehicles compared to internal combustion engines.
This partnership with Iveco also complements Stellantis' other strategic collaborations in the commercial vehicle sector, notably with Toyota. The Group is thus establishing itself as a key player in the electric commercial vehicle market, thanks to its expertise and industrial capacity.
The electrification of commercial vehicles is a major challenge for manufacturers, both in terms of infrastructure and production costs. Stellantis is aware of this and is taking a strategic approach by pooling its resources and expertise with other players in the sector.
Through this collaboration, Iveco will be able to benefit from Stellantis' experience and industrial facilities to offer competitive electric vehicles tailored to the needs of professionals. This alliance also demonstrates the adaptability of manufacturers in the face of environmental and economic challenges.
Finally, this agreement underlines Stellantis' leadership in the field of electric commercial vehicles, being the first to offer a complete range of 100% electric vehicles. In a rapidly changing market, only a strong and well-defined strategy will enable manufacturers to establish themselves and ensure their sustainability in the face of the challenges of the energy transition.
