[Review] Citroën C4: hybrid or electric versions with remarkable comfort

The Citroën C4 2025

Introduced in October 2024 and commercially launched at the beginning of the year, the facelifted Citroën C4 continues its journey with strong selling points. For our summer program, we are revisiting our tests of two of its flagship powertrains: the Hybrid 145, poised for great commercial success, and the Electric 156, which embodies the future of serene mobility. These two versions, although technologically different, share the same philosophy: to offer exceptional comfort and great versatility. Through a summary of our previous test drives, we invite you to rediscover a compact sedan that continues to surprise with its maturity and relevance in a highly competitive market.

An assertive and a preserved identity

With this mid-cycle facelift, the Citroën C4 does not revolutionize its design but evolves it judiciously. The changes, though discreet, reinforce its unique character. The front end gains modernity with the integration of the new three-bar light signature and the brand's "neo-retro" logo, which fits perfectly into the grille. This more aggressive and statutory signature gives the car a stronger presence on the road. At the rear, the changes are more subtle but help to refresh the car's lines. What I particularly appreciate is that Citroën has managed to modernize the C4 without distorting its DNA. Its raised stance, halfway between a sedan and an SUV, remains its main distinguishing feature. It is a unique proposition that clearly sets it apart from its more traditional rivals. The main flaw one might find is perhaps a lack of flair inside, which remains very sober and functional, but features rigorous assembly and good quality plastics. Citroën's great strength is offering a visually identical car, whether one opts for the hybrid or the electric version. Only discreet logos distinguish them. Customers, therefore, have the freedom to choose a car with an assertive style and a unique posture, simply by selecting the powertrain that best suits their needs and uses, without any compromise on aesthetics.

The pinnacle of comfort and remarkable efficiency

Beyond its style, it is behind the wheel that the Citroën C4 reveals its greatest qualities. Both tested versions highlight the brand's unique expertise in comfort. Thanks to the suspensions with Progressive Hydraulic Cushions® and the Advanced Comfort seats, the C4 filters out road imperfections with impressive smoothness, creating a "magic carpet ride" sensation that is particularly enjoyable in daily driving. Whether on urban commutes or long highway journeys, the level of comfort is simply supreme and sets a very high standard in its category. This serenity on board is enhanced by the overall efficiency of both powertrains. The Hybrid 145 version proves to be particularly frugal, capable of operating in electric mode for nearly 50% of urban trips, which helps control fuel consumption. The ë-C4, with its 156 hp motor and new battery, is equally impressive and turns out to be one of the most efficient electric cars on the market, including on the highway, a terrain often challenging for battery-powered vehicles. This mastery of consumption is a major asset that makes the C4 economically relevant, regardless of the chosen energy source. In conclusion, the facelifted Citroën C4 is a formidable compact sedan that has successfully built on its strengths. Comfortable, spacious, and particularly efficient, it will delight all its occupants, from the driver to the passengers in the front and rear. Each powertrain brings its own flavor to an already excellent recipe. The electric version adds an extra layer of driving smoothness, linked to the absence of noise and vibration, which amplifies the sense of tranquility on board. Meanwhile, the hybrid version combines a greater range with pleasant operational smoothness, while offering a significant dose of daily electrification for more virtuous journeys. The C4 is more than ever a credible and intelligent alternative, a car that places the well-being of its passengers at the heart of its concerns.
