Unveiled at the end of last April, the second generation Citroën C3 Aircross will be fully presented before the start of the summer for marketing in October. If Citroën has revealed the exterior lines of its new C3 Aircross, the brand has been careful not to provide details on its interior as well as its technical characteristics, but the latest information allows us to know a little more, particularly with regard to the 100% electric version.
Based on the C3 SmartCar platform, which is very different from the versions sold outside Europe, the new C3 Aircross will offer a 100% electric version, in addition to the thermal and hybrid versions, to meet the needs of consumers and cover the entire market.
300 to 400 km of autonomy
Citroën has so far remained rather silent on the motors and batteries of the electric versions, even if all the signs are that they will be taken from the new ë-C3, as the brand has not even revealed the autonomy of its new-born. However, the recent presentation of the close cousin of the C3 Aircross, the Opel Frontera, allows us to know a little more about the characteristics of the electric versions and therefore the expected ranges.
Thus, the electric version should benefit from a range of around 300 km thanks to a 44 kWh LFP battery compared to the 326 km of the new C3, a good range for the new C3 Aircross which will allow it to meet the weekly needs of a family.
But the recent presentation of the Opel Frontera also allows us to note that the German brand is working on a second electric version whose autonomy will be extended and probably increased to 400 km, which naturally suggests that the Citroën C3 Aircross could benefit from the same battery and thus also offer two different ranges for its electric version.
A more electrified offer
If Citroën has announced a MHEV hybrid version of its latest C3 Aircross, the latest Opel presentations allow us to understand a little more about the types of engines that could also be offered on the Citroën SUV. In fact, the German SUV will have, in addition to the electric versions, MHEV versions with an output of 100 hp, to which will be added a 136 hp version that already equips the Citroën C4 and C5 Aircross.
A version that will undoubtedly be widely available on the C3 Aircross after the wonders it works on the much larger C5 Aircross, and which will ensure that the brand's latest addition can control its consumption in the city thanks to the electric motor, allowing it to cover long distances without blinking.
There are only a few weeks left to discover all the information on the new generation C3 Aircross, the full presentation of which will take place in June, but we know more with the recent announcements from Opel, whose Frontera is close to the C3 Aircross, sharing its underpinnings, its engines and its factory. Thus, Citroën should offer a wide range of engines on its new SUV, from simple hybrid to electric with two types of autonomy, from 300 to 400km.
