New Citroën ë-C3 X (2026): Electric crossover launched in India with BaaS scheme

Citroën ë-C3 X 2026

Citroën is determinedly moving forward with the strategic restructuring of its product portfolio in the Indian market. Following a major overhaul applied to its entire internal combustion engine lineup last summer, the French manufacturer is now implementing this maturity formula for its zero-emission offering. The high-riding hatchback undergoes a profound transformation to become the new Citroën ë-C3 X. Moving far beyond minor aesthetic adjustments and a substantial enrichment of onboard technology, this specific variant stands out by introducing an unprecedented payment system to the market. This disruptive framework aims to eliminate the financial barriers traditionally associated with electric vehicle ownership in this key global region.

A bold design: the aesthetic maturity

The new Citroën ë-C3 X closely aligns with the exterior design updates recently introduced on the thermal variants of the C3 X family. The main goal of the design team was to provide a much more premium status to this fastback-crossover silhouette. The most striking visual upgrade is found at the front fascia, which now integrates a 100% LED lighting signature. Both the main headlamps and the daytime running lights (DRLs) adopt this technology, providing a sharp and high-tech gaze, complemented on the lower bumper by redesigned front fog lamps.

The urban SUV identity is further reinforced by the addition of front and rear silver skid plates along with pronounced lower body claddings. The side profile features new 15-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels (R15) with an intricate spoke pattern, while the rear end proudly displays a distinct "X" badge. Completing this exterior refresh, the brand includes electrically adjustable side mirrors featuring an auto-folding mechanism linked to the central locking system.

To satisfy the personalization demands of a discerning urban customer base, Citroën offers a choice of six monochromatic exterior colors:

  • Polar White

  • Steel Grey

  • Cosmo Blue

  • Perla Nera Black

  • Garnet Red

  • Deep Forest Green

An optimized interior and a wealth of advanced technologies

Inside, the cabin updates radically transform the onboard experience, permanently distancing the vehicle from the minimalist approach seen in earlier iterations. The dashboard benefits from an entirely revised color scheme, adopting a two-tone layout characterized by a lighter lower section that visually enhances the sense of space and light. The central decorative strip retains its distinctive Electric Blu® finish, creating an immediate visual connection to the electric vehicle ecosystem.

The seating arrangement takes a major step forward with the introduction of premium leatherette upholstery. Depending on the trim level, the cabin environment is configured as follows:

  • Shine Trim: Electric Blu® dashboard trim paired with premium two-tone Lama leatherette seats featuring Electric Blue accents on the upper backrests.

  • Live-O Trim: Electric Blu® dashboard trim combined with two-tone Lama leatherette seats accented by subtle Electric Blue highlights.

  • Live Trim: Electric Blu® dashboard trim matched with classic black fabric seats.

On the technological front, the driver faces a 7-inch TFT digital instrument cluster configured with a dedicated blue theme. Positioned centrally, the 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen manages wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. General convenience is elevated by an electrochromic auto-dimming rearview mirror, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and the Connected Car 2.0 suite, which includes over 40 remote control functions.

For the first time, premium optional equipment is available, including a high-end JBL audio system and a front and rear integrated dashcam setup featuring predictive safety capabilities. Cabin dimensions remain a benchmark for the segment, offering a 2,450 mm wheelbase, a class-leading 1,375 mm shoulder width, and a practical 315-liter trunk capacity. Overall ride comfort is certified by the Citroën Advanced Comfort® philosophy, which pairs advanced suspension tuning with high-density seats, all supported by a heavily tropicalized air conditioning system capable of dropping cabin temperatures below 14°C during extreme Indian summer conditions.

The ownership revolution: explaining the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model

The most significant commercial innovation of the new Citroën ë-C3 X lies in its market delivery system called BaaS (Battery-as-a-Service). Developed in close partnership with the country's leading banking institutions, this program decouples the purchase cost of the vehicle body from the battery pack itself. In practice, buyers finance their vehicle through two separate loan streams, significantly lowering the initial purchase barrier that often slows down EV adoption.

The initial introductory pricing model is structured as follows:

Financing Option

Price in Indian Rupees (INR)

Equivalent in Euros (€)

Running Cost / Installment

Full Traditional Purchase

From ₹10.25 lakh

9,430 €

Included

Innovative BaaS Scheme

From ₹6.89 lakh

6,338.80 €

+ ₹2.26 / km (approx. 0.0208 € / km)

Thanks to this targeted financial structure, the ongoing running costs of this sedan rank among the lowest in the automotive industry, settling at an exceptional 19 paisa per kilometer (approximately 0.00175 € / km).

This aggressive affordability does not compromise structural or occupant safety. Built on the brand's Smart Platform, the chassis of the ë-C3 X is constructed using more than 60% high-strength and ultra-high-strength steel. Placing the battery pack beneath the cabin floor ensures a low center of gravity, which enhances overall driving stability. Standard safety equipment includes 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat anchors with a top tether, and speed-sensing automatic door locks. The optional dashcam system unlocks advanced driver assistance systems, such as lane departure warning, forward distance monitoring, and pedestrian or non-motorized vehicle alerts.

Highlighting the strategic importance of this project, Kumar Priyesh, Brand Director of Passenger Vehicles at Stellantis India, stated "With the all-new ë-C3X, we are taking a definitive step forward in the development of electric mobility in India. This is not just a product launch, but a concrete initiative aimed at making EV ownership more accessible and flexible through our BaaS offering. Combining Citroën's signature comfort, a bold design, and practical technology, the ë-C3X offers a comprehensive and compelling electric mobility experience, perfectly tailored to the needs of Indian customers."

By completing the rollout of the new Citroën ë-C3 X, the French brand successfully finalizes the technological refresh of its Indian product family. Over a short span of four years, the core C3 program has undergone a dramatic evolution in India. Originally launched as an ultra-minimalist, low-cost entry-level proposition, it has transformed into a mature, safe, and highly connected vehicle. The inclusion of the BaaS financing model drastically compresses the upfront acquisition cost, opening up electric mobility to a much broader demographic. Sales expectations are high, and corporate focus now centers on the electric sedan's ability to drive volume growth, matching the strong commercial recovery achieved by the updated internal combustion C3 X range.
