New Citroën C5 Aircross (2025) Plug-in Hybrid 195: orders open

2025 Citroën C5 Aircross

Just a few weeks after unveiling the pricing structure for the highly anticipated second generation of its family SUV, Citroën is shifting into high gear. The French brand has now officially opened order books for the Plug-in Hybrid 195 version, a powertrain that completes the range and sits at the top of the C5 Aircross's electrified offerings. This third option, alongside the mild-hybrid and all-electric models, allows the SUV to present a comprehensive lineup of solutions designed to meet all customer needs, particularly those of professionals and families seeking versatility and efficiency.

The C5 Aircross PHEV 195 sharpens its competitive edge

For this new powertrain, Citroën has chosen to focus on the core of its market by offering it in two well-equipped trim levels, forgoing the entry-level "You" version. The range begins with the Plus trim, priced at €42,490. The top-tier offering is the MAX trim, which is set at €45,490. This pricing strategy is particularly astute. The C5 Aircross Plug-in Hybrid 195 is positioned €1,000 below its technical cousin, the Peugeot 3008, when equipped with the same engine. The price gap becomes even more significant when compared to other rivals, such as the Skoda Kodiaq PHEV, whose starting price exceeds €52,500, placing the Citroën model in a very competitive position.

To underscore its unique identity, this PHEV version comes with dedicated equipment. Notably, it features 19-inch "MOONDUST" diamond-cut alloy wheels, with an aerodynamic design inherited from the all-electric models. As standard, the SUV is equipped with a 3.7 kW onboard charger and a Mode 2 charging cable (T2/EF plug) for home charging. For those looking to optimize charging times, two options are available: a 7.4 kW single-phase onboard charger for €400, and a Mode 3 (32A) cable, ideal for public charging stations, offered for €300.

A new generation of plug-in hybrid technology

The true strength of this C5 Aircross lies in its redesigned powertrain, which promises a superior level of driving comfort. It combines a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine producing 150 hp with a 92 kW (125 hp) electric motor. The system is managed by a new dual-clutch automatic transmission, the ë-DCS7, delivering a combined output of 195 hp. The electric motor is powered by a 21 kWh battery, cleverly located under the floor to preserve cabin and cargo space.

This setup enables remarkable range performance. Citroën reports up to 96 kilometers (approx. 60 miles) of all-electric range on the WLTP cycle, a 33% increase over the previous generation. This performance places it among the best in its class, allowing most users to complete their daily commutes without using any fuel, with city driving range even exceeding 100 kilometers (approx. 62 miles). For long-distance travel, the large 55-liter fuel tank, identical to the mild-hybrid version, ensures a total combined range of up to 850 kilometers (approx. 528 miles).

The driver can choose from three driving modes. The default Hybrid mode intelligently manages the interplay between the two engines for maximum efficiency. Electric mode allows for zero-emission driving at speeds up to 135 km/h (84 mph), while Sport mode combines the power of both engines for enhanced dynamism, complete with specific settings for the steering and throttle response. As for charging, a full charge from 0 to 100% takes 5 hours and 15 minutes on a Wallbox with the standard charger, a time that drops to just 2 hours and 55 minutes with the optional 7.4 kW charger.

With the arrival of this 195 Plug-in Hybrid powertrain, the new Citroën C5 Aircross range is now complete, equipped with all the necessary assets to make its mark in a highly competitive segment. While its price point is close to that of the Peugeot 3008, a detailed comparison of standard equipment on each trim will be necessary to make a final judgment, but its value proposition already appears very strong. This version enhances the lineup with greater versatility and a significantly extended electric range, perfectly meeting the needs of modern families. Furthermore, it represents a particularly compelling offer for corporate fleets, which can benefit from favorable tax incentives on PHEV models—a market segment experiencing strong growth across Europe. The C5 Aircross has never been better equipped to continue its successful journey.
