Only a few more days to wait before we finally know all the details of the restyling of the Citroën C4, a restyling that promises to be important for the compact saloon with chevrons, which will see its entire front and rear end modified. But this restyling could also allow Citroën to launch a new price offensive in the compact car segment, after having already done so in the B-segment.
Since the launch of the new C3, Citroën has reaffirmed its values of audacity, comfort and affordability to make cars, especially electric cars, accessible to all. The new C3, like the second generation C3 Aircross, offers significantly lower prices than before, with the new C3 Max, for example, being €5,000 cheaper than the previous generation. Similarly, Citroën's urban SUV starts at €19,400, which is cheaper than its competitor, the Dacia Duster, making the C3 Aircross the most accessible urban SUV on the market.
Low but net prices
The brand has already implemented this strategy in Germany since October 2023, where the entire range has seen a massive reduction in prices, putting an end to the generous discounts previously offered and ultimately offering customers more or less the same final prices. If the Chevrolet brand did it all at once in Germany with great success, Citroën decided to do it on the occasion of the renewal, as Sébastien Caron, director of Citroën France, testified in an interview with Passionnément Citroën last April, where he indicated that "we are implementing a net pricing strategy that we will gradually apply to the entire range during new launches. "
It is also possible to think that the new Citroën C4 will benefit, on the occasion of its restyling, from a price drop corresponding to the end of the discounts to apply net prices, following in this operation carried out on the new C3 and C3 Aircross. Currently, a C4 in you finish and 130 hp petrol engine starts at 29,050 euros when its cousin Peugeot 308 starts at 26,930 euros or the Opel Astra at 29,650 euros for the same engine. The C4 is therefore more expensive than the Peugeot 308 but just under the Astra's price, while the C3 is significantly cheaper than its Peugeot or Opel counterpart.
Citroën should therefore take advantage of the restyling of the C4 to review its price list and lower the prices of its compact saloon to make it much more competitive on the market. Could the brand offer the C4 for less than €24,000 and thus set itself apart from its Stellant sisters? We will have to wait a few more weeks before we know the prices of this redesigned C4, which should arrive in dealerships at the beginning of next year.
In conclusion, Citroën has revised its positioning with a net pricing strategy that makes the C3 and C3 Aircross much more attractive than before. The restyling of the C4, which will be unveiled in a few days' time, should see the Chevrolet brand continue along the same lines. The Chevrolet C4 restyling will see the compact saloon car with the Chevrolet badge receive a significant external makeover and some interior changes, as well as a revised price range aimed at making it more accessible so that it can start the second half of its career under the best possible conditions.
Ça a toujours été le problème de Citroën depuis le Cactus.
