New Citroën C3 Aircross: the most powerful engine in its segment

Details of the tailgate of the new Citroën C3 Aircross in Brazil

Already on sale in India since mid-October, the new Citroën C3 Aircross SUV will be arriving at Brazilian dealerships in the coming weeks. On this occasion, the brand is heralding its arrival by confirming its engine, which will be the most powerful in its segment.

Brother of the C3, the new Citroën C3 Aircross has been designed in India and in Latin America, where it is manufactured on the lines of the Porto Real plant. A few days before its official launch, Citroën has released a first image confirming that its new urban SUV will be powered by an FCA-sourced petrol engine developing 130 bhp and 200 Nm of torque. Made in Betim, Brazil, this engine is called Turbo 200 and will make the new C3 Aircross the most powerful SUV in the segment in this displacement range, adding to its already long list of differences.

This award-winning engine, praised by both critics and the public, incorporates exclusive technologies such as the innovative Multiair III valve control system. This innovative solution offers a wide range of valve opening and timing variations, including Multilift mode, which allows the intake valves to be activated twice in the same cycle. The low inertia turbine with electric wastegate virtually eliminates response time lag, providing excellent performance over a wide range of engine speeds.

Having already confirmed that the new C3 Aircross would be equipped in Brazil with a CVT (continuously variable transmission) offering 7 speeds with sequential gear changing, Citroën now confirms that its new urban SUV will be equipped with a single 130 bhp engine, which should provide enough power to move it, especially since it offers up to 7 seats.

With this announcement, Citroën releases a picture of the C3 Aircross showing the Turbo 200 badge on the tailgate, but this picture also shows a detail that we had missed during the presentation in April and which shows the care taken by Citroën in the development of this C3 Aircross, care that we find in the new C3 in Europe. If you take a closer look at the rear lights, you will notice that the horizontal bars have chevrons engraved along their length, a detail that shows all the care and attention that the brand pays to its vehicles.

In conclusion, we are only a few days away from the official launch of the C3 Aircross in South America and this formalisation of the single engine that will make up its range is the brand's way of teasing this launch. But it also indicates that the C3 Aircross will not be an underpowered car, as it will have the most powerful engine. Since its unveiling, the C3 Aircross has had something special about it, it seems more refined, more refined than the C3 offered on the same markets, so much so that one wonders if this new C3 Aircross, along with the new generation C3 in Europe, is the true representative of the brand's new era.
