New Citroën Basalt: its exclusive interior

The yellow Citroën Basalt

Presented at the end of March last year, the new Citroën Basalt will be fully revealed on 2 August, a presentation that you can discover on Passionnément Citroën. But as the date approaches, the brand is releasing short videos on social networks in India to generate interest, the opportunity to discover the new features that the brand is bringing to its first SUV coupé.

Since the launch of the C3 on the Indian market in July 2012, there has been criticism of an insufficient level of equipment or, in any case, a gap between the needs of Indian consumers and what the brand's cars offer. at competitive prices. The new C3 Aircross has not helped matters, and Citroën is well aware of this, as the brand has already warned that its cars in India would benefit from a significant improvement in the level of safety equipment, in particular the introduction of six airbags instead of the two currently proposed.

These new products should be offered from July on the Citroën India range, but for the moment no official announcement has been made and everything suggests that the brand is waiting for the presentation of the new Basalt to formalise the rest of the range. This new Basalt has also been delayed by a few months, which is why it was only unveiled in March in the form of a vision to adopt this new equipment and move upmarket compared to the C3 and C3 Aircross, which were considered insufficient in the face of competition in particular. This is why the interior of this new Citroën SUV Coupé will be interesting to examine in order to know the new features that it will bring to the rest of the range, the first images revealed here show that the changes will be numerous.

A more comfortable interior

First observation: the Citroën Basalt will be offered with an automatic air conditioning system instead of the manual one offered on the C3 and C3 Aircross, a guarantee of greater comfort. The controls for this automatic climate control are formally present in the interior pictures above and follow the design of the new C3 and C3 Aircross in the European version.

The interior of this Citroën Basalt will also feature a new central console with an armrest, replacing the single armrest on the driver's seat of the C3 Aircross. This new raised central console with armrest offers greater comfort for the two front passengers on long journeys. This new armrest echoes the design of the armrests on the front door panels, for greater interior design consistency.

Passengers in the rear will also be better off, as the video images show that Citroën will be presenting a folding armrest that will offer the two rear-seat passengers greater comfort and increased functionality, as this armrest has two cup holders. On the C3 and C3 Aircross sold in India and Latin America, this armrest was not present until now, a sign of the brand's desire to further push the level of comfort offered on the Basalt, the latter could by following these changes to the rest of the range to make it even more comfortable.

In conclusion, the delay of a few months for the Basalt has allowed Citroën to remedy the shortcomings of the C3 and the C3 Aircross and to bring its first SUV coupé up to the level of the competition in terms of equipment and functionalities. This gives the Basalt every chance of breaking into the Indian market and elsewhere, especially as it is remarkably well-equipped for success with its dynamic looks and living space, which is similar to that of a 5-seater C3 Aircross. A few more days to wait to find out all about the brand's first coupé SUV.
