Presented at the end of March in the form of a vision consistent with the production version, Citroën's new SUV coupé, the Basalt, has since continued testing with heavy camouflage both in India and in Latin America, where it will be marketed. However, as its launch approaches, the Basalt has been seen almost without camouflage, an opportunity to see how faithful it is to the vision presented in March.
The third derivative of the C-Cubed programme developed by Citroën to strengthen its presence on markets outside Europe, particularly in India and Latin America, the Citroën Basalt is also the brand's first SUV coupé. Closely derived from the new C3 Aircross, with which it shares the entire front cell, including the doors, it stands out with a roofline that slopes gently down to the boot, giving it a much more dynamic appearance than its big brother. .
If these new photos are faithful to the vision presented a few months ago, they confirm that the Basalt will be equipped with a black roof on the top versions, contrasting with the bodywork. We will also find the colour clips already seen on the current C3 and C3 Aircross, which will make their first appearance on a Citroën outside Europe, a sign of the brand's desire to unify its models throughout the world. To this end, the Basalt should also herald a move upmarket for Citroëns sold in India and Latin America, where they will receive new additional equipment such as LED headlights or even 6 airbags, but also enrich the interior with new upholstery and better plastics, thus responding to the criticisms made of the C3 and C3 Aircross, which will of course also benefit from these improvements.
The new Citroën Basalt should be presented in the coming weeks for marketing from the start of the school year, simultaneously in India and Latin America, but will not come to Europe so as not to compete with the C4 which, between two, will have been restyled. Just a few more days to wait to find out all about Citroën's first SUV, which, if it does undergo a first development cycle outside Europe, will bring real new features that will benefit the C3 and C3 Aircross, giving them more strength to conquer new customers in their very difficult markets.
