The year 2025 promises to be a dynamic one for Citroën, with a host of new products that will transform its offer both in Europe and Latin America. One of this year's surprises is the arrival of the Citroën Basalt in an enriched version, equipped with a new 1.3 Firefly engine, which has just surprised during its development tests.
The 1.3 Firefly: a versatile engine for the Citroën Basalt.
The Basalt is therefore preparing to extend its range for 2025 with a Feel version equipped with a 1.3 Firefly engine. This engine, which will be one of the key engines in the range, is particularly suited to the needs of drivers in the region. Although the Feel version is equipped with a 1.3 litre naturally aspirated engine, the precise characteristics of this engine suggest great performance, including an output of 107 bhp when running on ethanol and 98 bhp when running on petrol.
In terms of equipment, the Basalt 1.3 Firefly Feel promises drivers increased comfort and cutting-edge technology. The brand's first SUV coupé will benefit from numerous comfort and safety features such as air conditioning, electric power steering, a 7-inch dashboard and a 10-inch Citroën Connect multimedia centre. These features are complemented by safety systems such as four airbags and a reversing camera to make manoeuvring easier.
The model is also equipped with LED daytime running lights, electric windows on all four doors, 16-inch alloy wheels and a six-speaker audio system. Citroën has not forgotten the practical aspect either, with three USB sockets and an alarm, thus offering a complete and pleasant driving experience. With a choice of a five-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed CVT automatic, drivers can choose the transmission that suits them best.
Several new mechanical models for Citroën in Latin America
After completing its C-Cubed programme, which completely renewed its range with three models in the B segment, Citroën is continuing its expansion in Latin America by improving several of its models for 2025. The manufacturer is preparing to equip its models with new engines that mark the beginning of the introduction of more modern and efficient technologies adapted to the needs of the local market. The 1.3-litre Firefly engine is a first step towards more powerful and efficient engines that are still economical in terms of fuel consumption.
The forthcoming launch of hybrid engines, led by Stellantis, should also strengthen Citroën's offer in Latin America. These new engines should enable the brand to position itself in a rapidly changing market where consumer expectations are evolving rapidly, particularly in terms of reducing emissions and energy transition.
The models in the range are therefore expected to incorporate hybrid solutions later this year in order to meet these environmental challenges. This development confirms the brand's commitment to offering a range adapted to local specificities as well as to the requirements of new environmental standards. In 2025, Citroën should therefore be at the forefront of offering accessible hybrids without compromising on performance.
With the launch of the Basalt 1.3 Firefly and its new engines, Citroën intends to make a name for itself in 2025. Offering an excellent combination of comfort, performance and technology, this model fits perfectly into the brand's development strategy in Latin America. This is a key region for Citroën, which will be able to diversify its range ahead of the arrival of hybrid engines expected in the coming months. There is no doubt that the Basalt 1.3 Firefly will be a strategic model to support Citroën's growth, particularly in Brazil, and that its launch marks an important step in the brand's strategy.
