Greece automotive success: Citroën becomes a top player as C3 claims #1 spot

Citroën C3

Citroën rises to the top of the greek market: C3 named leader for Q1 2026

The first quarter of 2026 has concluded with an exceptionally strong performance for Citroën, marking a symbolic milestone in the brand's European expansion. In the Greek market, which has traditionally been receptive to Citroën’s focus on comfort and bold design, results have exceeded initial expectations. The new Citroën C3 has made a grand entrance by taking the top spot in the overall sales rankings, confirming that this updated iconic model perfectly aligns with modern mobility needs. However, this success is not built on a single car alone. The entire renewed lineup, supported by the new C3 Aircross and the C4, has recorded very encouraging figures, providing Citroën with a solid and diversified growth momentum.

A month of march 2026 defined by growth

The Greek automotive market showed robust health during March 2026, with an overall increase of 15.7%, reaching a total volume of 14,710 units sold. In this favorable environment, Citroën significantly outperformed the national market trend. The French brand recorded a remarkable 26% increase in registrations, totaling 872 units. This acceleration allowed Citroën to capture a 5.9% market share, climbing to fifth place among the best-selling brands in Greece.

The spearhead of this achievement remains the Citroën C3. Although the model saw a slight temporary dip of 13% in March alone with 574 units, it maintained a major strategic presence. With a 3.9% market share, the C3 finished the month in fifth place in the general rankings across all categories, while holding onto the second step of the podium in its specific segment. These March volumes served as a foundation to consolidate a decisive lead over the entire quarterly period.

Q1 2026: A triumph for the C3 and the Double Chevron

For the whole of the first quarter of 2026, the Greek market grew more moderately by 4.9%, with 34,812 units. This is where Citroën’s offensive reached its full scale: the brand jumped by 44% with 2,531 deliveries. This exceptional momentum propelled Citroën to third place in the total market with a solid 7.3% market share. The primary success came from the Citroën C3, which, with a 4.3% increase and 1,696 units sold, claimed first place in the general rankings in Greece. It became the country’s best-selling car over the first three months of the year, capturing 4.9% of the market on its own.

Beyond the city car, the rest of the range demonstrated renewed appeal. The Citroën C3 Aircross achieved a remarkable run, ranking 18th in the general standings with 527 units. Its rise is noteworthy, as it now sits in 5th place in its highly competitive segment. Meanwhile, the Citroën C4 confirmed its status as a must-have hatchback. With staggering growth of 115.2% and 213 units in the first quarter, it established itself as the leading compact hatchback for the Stellantis group on Greek soil. In March alone, the C4 had already posted a spectacular growth of 147.8%, proving that its unique design and reference-level comfort are attracting an increasingly broad customer base.

The balance of a versatile range

This quarterly success highlights a strategic shift for Citroën in Greece. While previous generations of the C3 frequently topped monthly sales charts, ranking as the leader over an entire quarter is a rarer and more significant achievement. Above all, these data points reveal a brand that is less dependent on a single model. The joint success of the C3 Aircross and the C4 provides a broader commercial base, allowing the brand to reach different driver profiles, from urban families to long-distance commuters.

In conclusion, Citroën has set an exemplary start to the year in Greece. The C3's historic performance this quarter validates the technological and stylistic choices of the new generation. By strengthening its positions in the urban SUV and compact hatchback segments, the brand is securing the means for more robust and lasting growth. This Greek success could well be the precursor to a similar trend across other European markets during 2026.
