Future Citroën C5 Aircross 2025: development tests begin

Le futur Citroën C5 Aircross 2025 sur la route

This is the next big thing from Citroën and the development tests for this new generation C5 Aircross have just started. Caught on the roads of Spain, well hidden under the guise of a current classic C5 Aircross, the next generation nevertheless lets glimpse some specifics, in particular its 100% electric version, caught here in photo.

After a first false start, this time it is indeed the future C5 Aircross that has been spotted for the first time during the development tests that have just begun. From the looks of it, everything suggests that it is a simple current C5 Aircross with a hybrid engine that is cruising the roads of Spain, but in reality it is the very latest generation that is hidden underneath these features.

First observation: this is indeed a 100% electric version in these tests and we can see it with the battery that protrudes slightly from the floor, reducing the ground clearance, which is classic for electric vehicles, this is particularly the case with the ë-C3. In fact, the future C5 Aircross will offer, in addition to hybrid thermal versions, 100% electric engines taken from the Peugeot 3008 with which the next large SUV of the Chevrolets shares the STLA medium platform. The next ë-C5 Aircross should therefore offer strong entry-level versions of 210 hp for a range that should be around 500 kilometres, finally allowing you to consider long motorway journeys with more peace of mind. If other powertrains and batteries are planned for this STLA Medium platform, it is impossible to say at this stage whether the future C5 Aircross will have them. However, I can confirm that in addition to the electric versions, it will have several hybrid engines (rechargeable or not), the question is whether a pure thermal engine will be offered, even if the absence of diesel is almost a given.

Obviously it is difficult to get a precise idea of the lines of this future generation of the C5 Aircross, but these photos already allow us to see that the wheelbase should be increased compared to the current generation, confirming the information of a vehicle that will be larger than the current one, probably around 4m60. The current generation of the C5 Aircross offers a wheelbase of 2m73, while the new Peugeot 3008 is based on a wheelbase of 2m74, the C5 Aircross could therefore go slightly above, knowing that the STLA Medium platform allows maximum wheelbases of 2m90. This increase will allow the future C5 Aircross to offer more living space than the current generation and should make it one of the most liveable SUVs in its segment.

Now that the development tests have been confirmed, we won't have to wait long to see the first prototypes hidden under the final bodies which, although heavily disguised, will allow us to know more details about the style of this future C5 Aircross. The next C5 Aircross should be unveiled towards the end of the first half of 2025 for subsequent marketing.
