The 2024 Citroën C3 in hybrid version

After an initial comparison with the Dacia Sandero, the new Citroën C3 now faces the MG3, another formidable competitor in the hybrid multi-purpose saloon segment. It promises to be an exciting duel, with each model bringing its own unique vision of modern mobility. Let's take a look at the details to see which of these two cars stands out the most.

Interior and exterior styling

With its high ground clearance, large wheels and a driving position 10 cm higher than the previous generation, the new Citroën C3 has an SUV style. This design, combined with simple but refined lines, incorporates black elements with chevron stripes, demonstrating a particular attention to detail. This bold style is unique in its segment and offers a wide range of personalisation options, particularly thanks to the two-tone roof and interchangeable colour clips.

On the other hand, the MG3 adopts a more classic hatchback design without taking any major stylistic risks. Although style is subjective, Citroën stands out with a more original and customisable offer, while MG focuses on a consensual design to please as many people as possible.

Inside, the Citroën C3 offers a bright and warm interior with a horizontal dashboard integrating a 7-inch instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch multimedia screen. The soft upholstery adds a touch of comfort. The MG3, on the other hand, offers a darker interior with a higher perceived quality but a less cheerful atmosphere. The classic dashboard layout, with a well-placed multimedia screen and high central console, remains functional and pleasant.

Engines and Prices

The MG3 combines a 102 bhp 1.5 litre petrol engine with a 136 bhp electric motor for a total of 197 bhp. This hybrid system allows you to drive up to 60km/h in 100% electric mode, reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The 1.83 kWh battery also contributes to this environmental performance.

For its part, the Citroën C3 combines a 100 hp 1.2 turbo engine with a 28 hp electric motor for combined power under heavy loads. Although the battery is smaller, Citroën relies on efficient energy recovery to maintain fuel economy. The C3 Hybrid will be available from April 2025, so a road test will be necessary for a full comparison.

As for pricing, the Citroën C3 is available from €20,450 for the Plus trim and €22,150 for the Max trim, with 17-inch alloy wheels and a two-tone roof. The MG3 starts at €19,990 with 15-inch steel wheels and €21,490 for the Confort trim with 16-inch alloy wheels. The C3 is slightly cheaper to lease than the MG3, with a difference of just one euro per month.

The confrontation between the Citroën C3 and the MG3 is a close one, as each has its advantages. If the C3 is characterised by a bolder SUV style and a warm interior, the MG3 offers a more powerful engine and a more serious interior. To decide between these two models, a road test will be essential, as this static comparison cannot take into account all the nuances. The hybrid multi-purpose saloon segment is enriched by these two new proposals, offering consumers a varied and attractive choice.
