Because of its long history, Citroën has always been considered a local brand in Spain, a country where 60% of its production is now manufactured elsewhere. At a time when the brand is encountering difficulties in France, its sales in Spain are doing relatively well, particularly in electric cars where it is second in sales.
Second in the electric car market, but Citroën ends May as the leading multi-energy brand, with a market share of 8.2% and 1,838 registrations, a growth of 138% compared to first five months of last year. With 775 units registered in May, the Madrid Citroën ë-C4 obtained a market share of 4.2%. As for the Citroën Ami, it is the market leader in electric quadricycles with 284 registrations and a 92% market share.
Citroën commercial vehicles are also the protagonists of this success in the electric market. With a range offered entirely in electric version led by the Citroën ë-Berlingo, Citroën has occupied first place in this market since the start of the year, with 937 registrations, 505% more than in the same period of 2022, and a share of 23.5%.
Since the start of the year, across the market as a whole (PC+LCV and all engines), Citroën has registered 25,214 passenger cars and commercial vehicles on the total market for a market share of 5 .5%.
The Citroën C4 is the brand's best-selling model over the first five months with 5,920 registrations, making it the leader among C-segment saloons. In the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) category, the Citroën C5 Aircross climbed onto the podium in May, with 502 registered units and an 8.4% share. If we add up all the versions, thermal and electrified, this SUV reached 1,016 registrations in May, thus entering the monthly Top 10. As for the Citroën C5 X, it entered the podium in its category both in May and since the start of the year, with 126 and 680 units respectively.
In light commercial vehicles, the Citroën Berlingo is on the podium in its category, while its "zero emission" version, the Citroën ë-Berlingo, topped sales in its segment both in May and year-to-date.
In conclusion, Citroën is performing well in Spain by managing to rank several of its models at the forefront of their respective categories, in particular with the C4, which is the best-selling compact sedan. The strong surge in sales in the electric market accompanies the brand's performance in the Spanish market, which shows that Citroën is on the right track to succeed in its energy transition in Spain, a transition that could lead the brand to stay ahead of the market.
