The Citroën C4, produced exclusively in Spain for the whole world, has had a 100% electric version since its launch in 2020, making it one of the first electric compact sedans on the market. The latter represents an increasingly important part of the C4s leaving the lines of the Stellantis factory in Madrid, until it becomes one of the most produced electric cars in Spain.
With more than 17,000 units produced at the Madrid plant since the beginning of the year, the Citroën C4 and its sister model, the C4 X, account for 33% of the total volume produced by the plant in the first half of the year. In addition, the 100% electric versions of the C4 and C4 X represent more than 21% of the volume of electric cars produced in Spain by the Stellantis group, the undisputed leader of this type of engine in Spain with the production of electric cars in the group's three plants. In fact, Stellantis accounts for almost 90% of the total volume of electric cars produced in Spain since 1 January, and the C4 represents around 20% of this volume, making it one of the most produced electric cars among our Iberian neighbours.
With more than 517,000 cars produced in Spain in the first half of the year, the Stellantis Group is the country's leading car manufacturer, accounting for more than 39% of the total number of cars produced in Spain. The group is also the leader in the production of electric cars, which it assembles in its plants in Zaragoza, Vigo and Madrid, making it the only manufacturer in Spain to produce electric cars in each of these plants.
With more than 52,600 units produced since the beginning of the year, the Madrid plant is on track for a record year, with 33% of production dedicated to electric cars, one of the largest shares in the range. This share should increase with the arrival of the new Stellantis electric motor, which will make the C4 more competitive with an autonomy of 420 km.
The Vigo plant produced more than 275,000 units in the first half of the year, driven by the success of the Peugeot 2008 and the K9 commercial vehicles (Citroën Berlingo, Peugeot Partner, etc.). The share of electric vehicles is 17.5% for the K9 programme and 15.8% for the Peugeot 2008, well below that of the C4.
Finally, the Zaragoza plant, which produces the Opel Corsa and Crossland, as well as the Citroën C3 Aircross and Peugeot ë-208, produced more than 189,000 vehicles in the first half of the year, with electric vehicles accounting for 14% of production, mainly for the Corsa as the 208 has only just arrived. The proportion of electric vehicles produced in Zaragoza should therefore increase in the coming months to equal or even exceed the volumes of electric vehicles produced in Madrid for the Citroën C4.
In conclusion, Stellantis is the most important car manufacturer in Spain with more than 39% of the volumes produced, a percentage that rises to almost 90% for electric cars, making the group the undisputed leader. This performance by Stellantis is the result of production in all the group's plants in Spain, but also of a large proportion of Citroën C4 and C4 X electric vehicles, which account for 1/3 of production volumes.
