Citroën is reaping the rewards of its ambitious strategy in Latin America. After launching a major renewal plan aimed at boosting sales on this key continent, notably through the C-Cubed program dedicated to developing specific models, the French brand is starting to see its efforts pay off spectacularly. With the C-Cubed program now complete following the successful market launch of the new Basalt, and after what might have seemed like a mixed 2024 in the region, Citroën is finding remarkable new momentum, particularly in Argentina where it delivered an outstanding performance at the start of 2025.
An historic performance in the argentinian market
The first quarter of 2025 will be remembered as a milestone for Citroën Argentina. The brand achieved a market share of 4.8%, its highest level in a decade. This marks the second-best quarterly performance in Citroën's history in the country, surpassed only by Q1 2014. This achievement is even more impressive considering it occurred within a strongly recovering Argentinian market, which saw an overall increase of 82.5% during the same period.
With a sales volume of 7,320 registered vehicles, Citroën didn't just follow the market trend; it significantly outperformed it. Its growth of 148% compared to the first quarter of 2024 demonstrates exceptional momentum and strong acceptance of the brand's new offerings by Argentinian consumers. Furthermore, Citroën distinguished itself as the automotive brand with the highest market share growth in the country during this first quarter, rising from 3.7% to 4.8%. This is a clear sign that the strategy implemented is bearing fruit and the new models are resonating with buyers.
C-Cubed models success as the driving force
This solid performance is largely attributed to the success of the vehicles developed under the C-Cubed program, specifically designed to meet the expectations of Latin American markets. The trio comprising the C3, C3 Aircross, and the brand-new Basalt is proving particularly relevant and well-received.
The Citroën Basalt, the latest addition from this strategy launched early in 2025, has already registered over 1,400 units. This B-segment SUV with a distinctive SUV Coupé design is built on pillars of assertive Style (robust, dynamic, and efficient), Citroën's renowned Comfort, and Accessibility, positioning it as the most affordable SUV in the Argentinian market. Its commercial launch shows great promise.
Alongside it, the New C3 Aircross SUV, launched in 2024, confirms its benchmark status in the segment. With over 6,000 units registered since its launch, it attracts customers with its versatility, unique style, and innovative solutions, notably being the only model in its category to offer a seven-seat configuration with removable seats. The C3 hatchback also contributes significantly, especially with the introduction of the "You!" version, adding a touch of sophistication with the T200 Turbo engine paired with a 7-speed CVT transmission, leather upholstery, and distinctive design details.
The progressive ramp-up of the Basalt, combined with the confirmed popularity of the C3 and C3 Aircross, as well as upcoming new models from the brand, should enable Citroën to continue its positive trajectory in Argentina. Reaching nearly 5% market share in the first quarter is a significant step. It puts the brand firmly on track towards the goals set within the global "Citroën4ALL" strategic plan, which includes aiming for a 7% market share in Argentina in the long run.
Following previous good performances in Brazil, Citroën confirms its positive momentum in Latin America with this excellent result in Argentina. The recorded growth is particularly strong and significant for the brand, which has designated this region as a major strategic pillar for its international development and sales growth outside Europe. The initial success of the Basalt, in both Brazil and Argentina, suggests it could well be the key vehicle to further accelerate this progress. Citroën's journey in Latin America is certainly one to watch with great interest in the coming months and years.
