Citroën has just reached a significant milestone in its Latin American history. The Porto Real plant, located in Brazil, has celebrated the production of its one-millionth vehicle. This event coincides with the success of the recent launch of the Citroën Basalt, the emblematic model that marked this millionth vehicle to leave the production lines. This milestone underscores the brand's long-standing commitment to the Brazilian market and its ambition for growth in the region.
One million units: chronicle of a brazilian production
The milestone of the one-millionth vehicle produced by Citroën in Brazil was marked by the roll-out of a Ruby Red Basalt Shine from the Stellantis Automotive Hub in Porto Real this Monday, May 19, 2025. The history of this plant began in early 2001 with the assembly of the very first locally manufactured Citroën model: the Xsara Picasso minivan. Since then, the Porto Real production line has seen the birth of a variety of models that have left their mark on the Brazilian automotive landscape. In addition to the initially launched Citroën Xsara Picasso, the plant successively produced the first generation of the Citroën C3 (from 2003), the restyled version of the Citroën Xsara Picasso (from 2007), the Citroën C3 Aircross (from 2010), the Citroën C3 Picasso (from 2011), the second generation of the Citroën C3 (from 2012), the second generation of the Aircross (from 2015), the Citroën C4 Cactus (from 2018), and more recently, the C-Cubed family models including the third generation of the Citroën C3 (since 2022), the new Aircross (launched in 2023), and finally, the Citroën Basalt (introduced in 2024).

Felipe Daemon, Vice President of the Citroën brand for South America, emphasized the significance of this milestone: "With one million vehicles produced in Brazil, Citroën has always sought to offer design, comfort, innovation, and driving pleasure to its customers, whether they drive a Citroën Xsara Picasso, a Citroën Aircross, or a Citroën Basalt. These 11 models, along with those we import, are a source of pride for our history in this country. It is a shared celebration, built day after day by a team that puts everything into offering quality, innovation, and pride. I would also like to highlight the Citroën dealer network, true partners in this journey to success."
The Basalt at the heart of the strategy and special offers
This millionth vehicle comes at an opportune time for Citroën in Brazil. The successful launch of the Basalt, a coupé SUV positioned as one of the most affordable on the market, appears to be paying off and boosting the brand's sales. To celebrate this production milestone, Citroën is offering special commercial conditions until May 31st. Brazilian customers can benefit from a bonus of up to R$ 6,000 when trading in their old Citroën vehicle, as well as promotional financing rates and flexible payment terms on models like the C3 and the Aircross.
Latin America is clearly identified as a priority market for Citroën and the entire Stellantis Group. Along with India, this region is seen as the third engine of growth for the global automotive group. For Citroën, success in these markets is essential to ensure sustainable growth and compensate for an increasingly competitive and contracting European market. The production of the one-millionth vehicle in Porto Real demonstrates the brand's long-standing commitment to Brazil. The C-cubed program, with three models currently assembled at this site, including the promising Basalt, illustrates this strategy and the hopes placed in this region for Citroën's future.
