Citroën in Italy: a 2025 performance driven by the success of the C3

The Citroën C3 in red

The year 2025 concluded on a very positive note for Citroën in Italy. Despite a more challenging final quarter, the brand demonstrated remarkable resilience by gaining ground in key areas. Citroën improved its overall position, particularly in the electric vehicle (EV) market. The Citroën C3 emerged as the star of the year, ranking as the top-selling petrol car in the country and the leader in its electric segment. By strengthening its presence in private sales, the brand is entering 2026 with confidence.

Solid growth and electric success in the Italian market

According to Dataforce data, Citroën maintained a 3.7% market share throughout 2025. While overall numbers were stable, the brand saw a significant 0.2% growth in sales to private customers, reflecting strong public trust.

In the EV sector, Citroën’s strategy is clearly working. The brand’s share of the 100% electric (BEV) market rose to 5.7%, a 3.7% increase compared to 2024. This growth is primarily driven by the C3, which continues to be the main engine for the brand's sales across all energy types.

Citroën C3: the queen of petrol and electric segments

The Citroën C3 was the ultimate market winner in Italy in 2025. In its internal combustion version, it became the best-selling petrol model across all segments, with 31,597 units sold—outperforming its closest competitor by nearly 8,000 units.

The electric version, the New Citroën ë-C3, also dominated its segment with 4,129 units (significantly ahead of the Renault 5's 2,329 units). It now ranks as the 5th most popular electric car in Italy. With its 44 kWh battery and rapid charging capabilities, it offers the perfect balance of comfort and modern technology for daily commuting.

Looking ahead: a stronger 2026

In conclusion, Citroën’s 3.15% decline in a market that fell by 2.1% is not a cause for concern. The brand maintains a solid market share above 3.6% and is seeing positive trends in private sales. With 2026 being the first full year for several key launches—including the New C3 Aircross and the New C5 Aircross (a finalist for "Car of the Year" 2026)—Citroën is well-positioned for strong growth in the coming months.
