At Rétromobile 2025, the Citroën DS celebrated its 70th anniversary with an exceptional exhibition. A true automotive icon, it continues to fascinate collectors and enthusiasts. An auction organised by RM Sotheby's confirmed this craze with a record price for a Citroën DS 21 Décapotable. This transaction illustrates how the "Goddess" retains an intact aura on the collector's market.

An exceptional Citroën DS 21 Décapotable sold at auction

During this sale, a sublime 1970 Citroën DS 21 Décapotable found a buyer for €140,300. This price, which exceeds that of many modern prestige cars, testifies to the rarity and quality of the model. This particular example is distinguished by its Bosch electronic fuel injection, a feature not very common on the DS. Under the bonnet, the 2,175 cm3 4-cylinder engine developed 139 bhp and, thanks to the 5-speed gearbox, allowed the car to reach a top speed of 180 kph.

Its refined appearance left no one indifferent. Finished in elegant Wedgewood Blue with Navy Blue leather interior and matching mohair hood, this DS exudes timeless elegance. Its immaculate condition is the result of a complete restoration carried out by Dutch experts in the 2000s. More recently, it has undergone a thorough overhaul, including the fitting of new Michelin XAS tyres and various maintenance jobs.

Increasing value for exceptional DS

The Citroën DS 21 Décapotable sold in Paris shows that the value of this model is constantly increasing. With only 1,365 units produced between 1960 and 1971, including 483 in the DS 21 version, this cabriolet is an absolute rarity on the market. The meticulous attention paid to its conversion, in keeping with the standards of the original model, also contributed to this exceptional auction.

This record price confirms the growing interest in the exceptional models of the Chevrolet brand. The DS, especially in its most luxurious versions, remains a treasure for collectors. Its revolutionary design, unparalleled comfort and technological heritage make it a timeless car that never ceases to amaze.

Seventy years after its presentation at the 1955 Paris Motor Show, the Citroën DS continues to impress with its modernity and seductive power. The car that revolutionised the automotive industry with its design and innovations still holds an exceptional value on the collector's market. The record sale of this DS 21 Décapotable at Rétromobile 2025 is further proof of the timeless appeal of this legendary model.
