Citroën C3 Aircross XTR: first exclusive image

Citroën C3 Aircross XTR

I announced it some time ago, the imminent arrival of an XTR version of the C3 Aircross in Brazil was in the pipeline. Today, this information is confirmed with the publication of an exclusive first photo of this unprecedented variant, set to launch by October. This news will undoubtedly delight fans of the Double Chevron brand and those looking for an SUV with a more adventurous look.

The return of XTR: a tradition of adventure for Citroën in Brazil

The C3 Aircross is therefore preparing to welcome the XTR version in the coming weeks, an iconic designation that is no stranger to Citroën's history in Brazil. This variant traditionally emphasizes the adventurous character of the brand's vehicles. To understand the importance of this return, it is relevant to look at the history of XTR versions offered by Citroën in the region.

The XTR line was born in Brazil with the Citroën C3 XTR in 2006. Based on the first generation of the city car, this version was distinguished by aesthetic elements reinforcing its "adventure" side, such as specific bumper protections, wheel arch extensions, and roof bars. The objective was to capitalize on the appeal of robust-looking vehicles, even without increased off-road capabilities. It was equipped with 1.4 and 1.6 Flex engines, highlighting its urban positioning but with a touch of daring.

Later, the XTR concept was adopted for the Citroën Aircross, the compact SUV launched in 2010. The Citroën Aircross XTR continued in this vein, offering specific exterior finishes, including distinctive alloy wheels, chrome side moldings, and body protections, reinforcing the image of a vehicle ready for urban and suburban adventures. These models successfully attracted customers who wanted a distinctive style without sacrificing comfort and practicality.

The return of the XTR badge to the C3 Aircross 2026 is thus part of this continuity: to offer a more assertive and adventurous aesthetic to a model already well-established in the Brazilian market. This strategy allows Citroën to meet a growing demand for robustly designed vehicles, while strengthening the "Aircross" identity of the model.

C3 Aircross XTR: optimized style, comfort, and performance

As Autos Segredos exclusively revealed, the upcoming Citroën C3 Aircross XTR 2026, which will officially adopt the simplified Aircross name upon its launch, will be available in five and seven-seater versions. This flexibility underscores Citroën's desire to offer a versatile vehicle, suitable for large families as well as solitary adventurers. The prototype spotted by Autos Segredos featured distinctive decals on the C-pillar and lower doors, with a body of the same color, suggesting a harmonious integration of the XTR style elements.

Based on the Shine version, the Citroën Aircross XTR 2026 will inherit 17-inch wheels, which are expected to have a black finish, accentuating its dynamic and robust appearance. These wheels will be fitted with 215/60 R17 tires, ensuring good grip and a comfortable ride. Exterior visual accessories will be completed by the XTR emblem at the rear and a bumper adorned with orange details. These vibrant color touches aim to highlight the youthful and daring character of this version, in line with the adventurous spirit of the XTR lineage.

Inside, the adventure theme continues with black synthetic upholstery enhanced by orange accents, which will also be found on the dashboard. This color harmony creates a dynamic and modern atmosphere, inviting escape. In terms of standard features, this new high-end version of the SUV will make no compromises on comfort and technology. It will be equipped with digital air conditioning, electric power steering, power windows and locks, an intuitive multimedia center, and an induction mobile phone charger, among other features designed to enhance the driving experience and occupant well-being.

Regarding the engine, the Citroën Aircross XTR 2026 will be exclusively powered by the 1.0 Turbo 200 Flex engine. This unit develops 130 horsepower with ethanol and 125 horsepower with gasoline, offering 20.4 kgfm of torque. It will be paired with a seven-speed CVT automatic transmission, ensuring a smooth and responsive drive, ideal for both city and escapades. In terms of safety, the model will retain essential equipment, namely four airbags (two side and two front), ABS brakes with EBD, hill start assist, ISOFIX child seat attachment system, three-point seat belts and headrests for all occupants, as well as traction and stability controls.

The arrival of this XTR version coincides with a simplification of the nomenclature for the 2026 range, with the C3 Aircross simply becoming Aircross in Brazil, a few months after a similar change in India. This strategic evolution aims to streamline the model's identity and strengthen its positioning as a full-fledged SUV.

The confirmation of the Citroën C3 Aircross XTR's arrival in Brazil marks a significant step for the brand. Not only does it meet a local demand for more assertive-looking vehicles, but it also opens the door to speculation about the future of the Citroën range. The emphasis on the adventurous side of the C3 Aircross, already naturally SUV-oriented, suggests a more adventurous direction for the brand.

It would be interesting to imagine an XTR version for the C3 as well, whose basis, already very SUV-like with its high ground clearance, would be perfectly suited to an even more robust variant. Could the success of these models in Brazil inspire Citroën to offer such XTR versions in other markets, including Europe? The idea is not far-fetched. Citroën has always had a strong connection with adventure and exploration, from desert raids to Dakar participations. This return to the roots of the adventurer, even if it is primarily aesthetic for now, resonates with the brand's DNA. It seems that Citroën is indeed charting a bolder path for its future models, a playground it has mastered for a long time.
