During an official ceremony held in Brasília, the French brand achieved a new symbolic milestone in its Latin American expansion. Citroën has officially handed over the keys to 69 units of the Citroën C3 Aircross to the Minas Gerais Military Police (PMMG). This significant order, designed to strengthen public safety, highlights the manufacturer's ambition to become a major player in the B-SUV segment, not only for private buyers but also for demanding institutional fleets.
A strategic victory in electronic auctions
The acquisition process for these vehicles was highly competitive. Citroën applied through a competitive electronic auction held in November 2024. By winning this public contract, the brand demonstrates the relevance of its pricing strategy combined with technical specifications tailored to the needs of the Brazilian state. The 69 units delivered are now part of the Minas Gerais Military Police fleet, an area whose vast size and geographic diversity require robust and versatile vehicles.
These new SUVs will be deployed to support daily security operations in no fewer than 55 municipalities across Minas Gerais. The role of the C3 Aircross within the PMMG is critical: configured as a patrol car with a dedicated detainee cell, it will serve as the primary tool for rapid intervention, local surveillance, and secure transport. This public service mission places the model in the spotlight, ensuring daily exposure across the entire territory of Minas Gerais.
Rigorous testing for an exceptional mission
To join the ranks of the military police, the Citroën C3 Aircross had to prove its worth. Before the final order was validated, the model underwent a series of extremely rigorous performance tests. The goal was to evaluate the durability and resistance of the chassis and mechanical components under real-world operational conditions, which are often very taxing on equipment. Police engineers and technicians analyzed the vehicle's ability to handle intensive usage cycles, both thermally and structurally.
Technically, the SUV impressed with its Turbo 200 1.0-liter engine, capable of delivering up to 130 horsepower. Paired with a CVT automatic transmission with seven simulated gears, this mechanical setup offers the responsiveness essential for emergency interventions. Beyond pure performance, interior space was a deciding factor. With a length of 4,320 mm and a wheelbase of 2,675 mm, the C3 Aircross offers interior roominess above the segment average. These dimensions allowed for the specific installation of a secure compartment for detainees without compromising the comfort of the officers in the front.
In addition to these intrinsic capabilities, each vehicle received electronic modifications to integrate sirens and communication systems, a specific PMMG livery, and interior reinforcements suitable for heavy-duty professional use.
An official ceremony centered on reliability
The handover in Brasília provided an opportunity for brand executives to reaffirm their commitment to the South American market. This success extends beyond the Minas Gerais police, as Citroën, through its dedicated government sales division, continues to secure multiple contracts. The brand has already collaborated with the Civil Police, the Ministry of Justice, and recently delivered over 60 C3 Aircross units to the Army Command in Brasília.
During the event, Pedro Silva, Citroën Director for South America, emphasized the importance of this collaboration: "At Citroën, we strive to develop versatile and robust vehicles capable of meeting different uses and the specific needs of each client. The choice of the Citroën Aircross by the Minas Gerais Military Police is a testament to its durability, performance, and reliability for public safety operations."
This statement highlights Citroën's "C-Cubed" strategy, which aims to provide products designed locally to address the region's specific challenges. The C3 Aircross, with its high ground clearance and optimized approach angles, stands out as the ideal tool for navigating between dense urban centers and the more rugged rural areas of Brazil.
A promising success for Citroën’s future in Brazil
With this major order, Citroën demonstrates its ability to meet the most complex technical specifications. The trust placed in the brand by the Military Police validates the technical choices made by local development teams, such as the integration of the 10.25-inch Citroën Connect multimedia system, which assists officers in the field with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The C3 Aircross has proven itself as a vehicle capable of ensuring security missions with complete reliability. This institutional victory is expected to act as a catalyst for retail sales, offering a welcome image of strength for the urban SUV. By successfully entering Brazil's public fleets, Citroën is laying the groundwork for sustainable growth in South America, confirming that its product offensive is yielding results beyond initial expectations.
