After a mixed assessment for Citroën in 2024 on the Brazilian market, which I told you a few days ago and which you can find here, the brand recorded strong growth in February 2025, thanks in particular to the new Basalt, which recorded the strongest growth in its segment.
A good start for the Citroën Basalt
The Citroën Basalt had already performed well at the end of last year, but it is gaining momentum again at the start of this year. In February 2025, the Basalt sold 1,701 units, up 41% on January, making it the best performer in its segment in Brazil. This puts Citroën's first SUV-coupé in 17th place in terms of overall sales. The Basalt became Citroën's best-selling model in February and appears to have a much higher sales capacity than the C3 and C3 Aircross.
The Basalt also stands out for its technical characteristics and equipment. Available in three versions (Feel, Feel Turbo 200 and Shine Turbo 200), it offers a competitive standard equipment package, including two engine options (1.0 Firefly and Turbo 200), a spacious 490-litre boot and a 10.25-inch Citroën Connect touchscreen multimedia centre with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
New dynamism for Citroën
In February 2025, Citroën registered a total of 3,258 vehicles, an increase of 70.48% compared to February 2024, a performance that brings the brand's market share to 2.37%, placing it 12th among the brands. However, although the market share is increasing, it is still well below the objectives of the Citroën 4ALL plan, which aimed to give Citroën a 4% market share.
To maintain this momentum, Citroën is offering special conditions from 7 March to 3 April, with generous discounts and zero-rate financing. These promotions should help sales in the coming months and support the C3 and C3 Aircross, which are beginning to experience some difficulties.
The C3 sold only 999 units in February, down 34.06% on the same month last year, but still in 7th place in its segment. The greatest difficulty is for the C3 Aircross, which found 484 buyers in February and, although the progress is strong compared to last year, which was a launch month, the volumes are very low and the C3 Aircross only ranks 26th among the SUVs.
The year 2024 ended on a mixed note for Citroën, with an increase in sales, but much lower than it should have been, so that the brand's market share remained low compared to the initial target. While the Basalt seems to be well on its way to conquering the Brazilian market, the other models in the range are experiencing difficulties. It remains to be seen whether these difficulties are related to orders or to the forthcoming new products that the brand is preparing, including new engines.
