Four years after its commercial launch and just weeks before the arrival of a highly anticipated restyled version, the Citroën Ami continues to leave its mark on the French quadricycle market. The results for the first quarter of 2025 confirm this dynamic, placing the Ami at the top of sales in this evolving segment.
A predominantly electric quadricycle market
The French quadricycle market saw a slowdown in March 2025, showing an overall decline of 27.74% with a total of 1,597 units sold. This contraction primarily concerns internal combustion engine models. In contrast, electric quadricycles continue their growth, recording a notable increase of 23.29% with 1,117 units sold in March, thus representing a majority share of sales for the month.
For the first quarter of 2025 as a whole, the trend is similar. The overall quadricycle market shows a decrease of 27.19%, totaling 4,932 units. However, the electric segment confirms its strength: with 3,505 electric quadricycles sold during the period, this segment is up by 15.22% and now represents 71.07% of total quadricycle sales in France. These figures perfectly illustrate the profound change this market has undergone since the arrival of the Citroën Ami, significantly contributing to the shift in both supply and demand towards electric mobility.
In the sales ranking across all powertrains for March 2025, the Citroën Ami ranks first with 410 units sold, capturing a market share of 25.67%. It is followed by the Aixam S10 (both thermal and electric) with 362 units (22.67% market share) and the Fiat Topolino (electric) which takes third place with 351 units (21.98% market share). In the specific segment of electric quadricycles, the Citroën Ami also maintains its leadership, ahead of the Fiat Topolino and the Aixam S20 (the electric version of the S10).
Over the entire first quarter of 2025, the Citroën Ami confirms its position as the undisputed leader of the quadricycle market in France, across all powertrains. With 1,449 units sold, it ranks first, ahead of the Fiat Topolino (1,172 units) and the Aixam S10 (1,081 units, including thermal and electric versions).
A great performance for Ami
Although the Citroën Ami maintains its number one sales position, the figures show a notable decrease in its performance compared to the same period in 2024. In March 2025, its sales fell by 30.15%, a trend confirmed over the entire first quarter of 2025 with a decrease of 30.40% compared to Q1 2024.
This decrease, significant as it may be, was largely anticipated. Indeed, Citroën unveiled the restyled version of the Ami last October at the Mondial de l'Auto in Paris. This presentation naturally created a certain level of anticipation among potential buyers, who might prefer to wait until the new version is available before making their purchase.
Despite this temporary downturn related to the restyling announcement, the Citroën Ami demonstrates its robustness by retaining its first place in the French market. This performance is not isolated, as the Ami also leads quadricycle sales in other major European markets such as Italy and Spain, highlighting its success and relevance well beyond French borders.
With over 65,000 units sold worldwide since its launch, the Citroën Ami undeniably represents a significant commercial success for the brand with the chevrons. Its unique, accessible, and resolutely electric concept has appealed to a wide range of customers.
The quadricycle market has evolved, and competition has intensified, particularly with the arrival of models like the Fiat Topolino, which shares its technical platform with the Ami. Despite this increased competition and a generally declining overall market context in the first quarter of 2025, the Citroën Ami shows remarkable solidity by maintaining its position as sales leader in France. The decrease in its volumes is a logical consequence of the anticipation for the restyled version, and this performance maintains optimism about its ability to continue dominating the market in the coming months, once the new version is fully available. The Ami thus continues to embody a vision of simplified and electric urban mobility, and the Q1 2025 figures confirm the longevity of its success.
