Since its launch, Citroën AMI has redefined the codes of urban mobility. Designed to provide affordable and environmentally friendly access to mobility, it also meets a wide range of social needs. A concrete example of this social mission can be found in Chenevelles, a small town in Vienne, France, where the Citroën AMI is enabling young people to emancipate themselves.
An ambitious social initiative
As part of an innovative project, the commune of Chenevelles has decided to purchase two Citroën AMIs and make them available to young people between the ages of 18 and 25. These vehicles will be made available to young people as part of a "Mobility Pass", a programme that allows them to use these cars for professional or educational purposes, for example to attend a job interview or a training course. The project, which is funded by the State and the Department as part of the Rural Development Plan, aims to strengthen the autonomy and employability of young people in rural areas.
Cyril Cibert, Mayor of Chenevelles, explains: "These small cars are not very expensive. We are going to call them 'friends of solidarity'. He stresses that the aim is not to provide a means of transport for leisure, but to promote access to employment and training. In return, the beneficiaries will have to perform a few hours of community service, such as mowing lawns or painting municipal infrastructure.
How the Mobility Pass works
Inspired by the "Pass permis" programme, which finances part of the cost of a driving licence in exchange for hours of community service, the Mobility Pass is based on the same principles. Young people can borrow a Citroën AMI for a maximum of two months. This programme is part of an approach based on responsibility and mutual support, while at the same time responding to a real need for mobility in rural areas, which are often poorly served by public transport.
At the same time, a mobile application will be developed to allow users to reserve vehicles in complete transparency. This system aims to ensure fair access and optimal use of the resources made available.
This choice is also part of a logic of sustainable development and reduction of the carbon footprint, while offering an affordable alternative to traditional vehicles. By making mobility more inclusive, Chenevelles is paving the way for a new use of the Citroën AMI beyond the city limits.
An exemplary and replicable project
The first two Citroën AMIs should be delivered within two months, and the local authority hopes that this initiative will serve as a model for other rural communities in France. As well as responding to practical needs, the project also aims to strengthen social ties by promoting values of solidarity and cooperation.
In this way, the Citroën AMI demonstrates that it is much more than just an electric vehicle. Four years after its launch, it continues to surprise with its versatility and adaptability to different contexts. By enabling accessible, ecological and supportive mobility, it could well embody the future of mobility, both in urban and rural areas.
Citroën AMI is once again demonstrating its ability to respond to contemporary mobility issues. The Chenevelles initiative shows how this vehicle can promote social inclusion and economic development, particularly for young people. Similar projects could expand the potential of the Citroën AMI and confirm its role as a pioneer in the field of alternative mobility.
