Citroën's XTR versions, which first appeared in Europe in 2004 on the C3, have enjoyed a particularly successful run in Latin America, notably with derivatives of the C3 and C3 Aircross. Building on this past success, Citroën is actively exploring the possibility of offering new versions based on the current generations of these models in the coming months in Brazil. This initiative aims to revitalize the brand's offering in this strategic market and capitalize on the positive image left by previous XTR iterations.
With the C-Cubed programme now complete, it is time for new models.
Citroën's C-Cubed programme has just concluded in Latin America with the launch of the Basalt, the brand's first SUV coupé. This model has been a great success in the Brazilian market. However, Citroën doesn't intend to stop there. Far from being passive, the brand is reportedly working actively to revitalise its line-up in order to maintain novelty and visibility for its very young range in Brazil, where the C3 was only released in 2022. Citroën is also developing special editions of the C3, C3 Aircross and Basalt to generate ongoing interest in a highly competitive market where having something new is essential. In the coming months, the brand will reportedly be working on developing XTR derivatives of the C3 and C3 Aircross in Latin America. This move will revive memories of previous successful models and could give the C3 and C3 Aircross, which are currently struggling in the Brazilian market, a significant boost. This project demonstrates Citroën's commitment to refreshing its range beyond initial launches by offering consumers more distinctive and appealing options.
Encouraging prospects for the Citroën range in Brazil
Rumours about the C3 Aircross XTR are becoming increasingly persistent and positive. This adventurous version will be available in five- and seven-seat configurations, meeting a wide range of family needs. Based on the Shine version, it would inherit its 17-inch wheels, which would be finished in black, while retaining 215/60 R17 tyres.
Aesthetically, the C3 Aircross XTR will feature orange and black details on the front bumper to add a touch of dynamism and originality. The traditional airbumps on the sides would be enhanced with orange details and an XTR sticker to reinforce the identity of this version. These exterior visual touches would be complemented by an XTR emblem at the rear and an orange-accented rear bumper.
The interior would feature black synthetic seats with orange detailing to create a sporty and modern atmosphere. The dashboard would also be adorned with orange appliqués to create visual coherence. In terms of standard equipment, this new top-of-the-range SUV will come generously equipped with automatic climate control, electric power steering, electric windows, a complete multimedia system, an alarm and an induction mobile phone charger, as well as other comfort and technological features.
In terms of safety, the 2026 Citroën C3 Aircross XTR will have four airbags, ABS brakes with EBD, hill start assist, ISOFIX child seat mounts, three-point seatbelts and headrests for all occupants, and traction and stability control.
Like the other trims in the 2026 range (Feel, Feel 7L, Feel Pack, Feel Pack 7L, Shine and Shine 7L), the Citroën Aircross XTR would be equipped with a 1.0 Turbo 200 Flex engine and CVT transmission. This 1.0-litre turbocharged engine delivers 130 hp on ethanol and 125 hp on gasoline, with a torque of 20.4 kgfm for both fuels. It is paired with a seven-speed CVT transmission to ensure a smooth and responsive ride. The XTR version could well become the new top-of-the-range C3 Aircross, offering distinctive style, rich features and tailored performance.
Alongside the C3 Aircross XTR, the Citroën C3 could also feature the same XTR rear spoiler, as its SUV-style body suggests it would suit such a version perfectly.
With the C-Cubed program concluded, Citroën will now focus on animating its range in other ways, notably by adding special series or derivatives. The possibility of XTR versions for the C3 and C3 Aircross is excellent news for the brand. Previous XTR generations have left a very positive impression and achieved significant success in the Brazilian market. This return could increase the visibility of these models, stimulate their sales, and strengthen Citroën's position in a market where competition is fierce. This strategy of enriching the range with versions that have a strong personality is a strong signal from Citroën, demonstrating its ability to adapt to local consumer expectations and capitalize on its past successes.
