Following an initial safety-focused update earlier this year, which notably introduced six standard airbags across its Indian lineup, Citroën is now accelerating its strategy. The chevron brand is launching a new offensive with the C3 X, a significantly enriched version of its popular urban SUV. Featuring around fifteen new functionalities and surprisingly revised lower prices, Citroën is clearly stating its ambition: to make its flagship model far more competitive in the dynamic and demanding Indian market.
A product upgrade, not just a facelift
Citroën has listened to the market. To achieve lasting success in India, it's not enough to offer a vehicle with an attractive design and renowned comfort; technological and safety equipment are crucial purchasing criteria. The new Citroën C3 X is the perfect embodiment of this realization. Without altering its strong and well-liked exterior styling, the brand has carried out a profound update of its offering. No fewer than 15 new features have been introduced, radically transforming the onboard experience.
Among the most significant additions are features typically found in higher segments. Cruise control with a speed limiter, a first in this segment in India, promises enhanced driving comfort on long journeys. The Proxi-Sense keyless entry and start system offers complete hands-free convenience, where the car automatically unlocks as you approach and locks as you walk away. To make maneuvering easier, a new HALO 360° camera has been introduced, offering seven different viewing modes. The cabin also gains new refinements such as a leatherette-wrapped dashboard, while nighttime safety is improved with an auto-dimming rearview mirror and a full LED lighting setup (projectors, fog lamps, and daytime running lights). These substantial improvements now position the C3 X as a formidable competitor against established players. This strategy demonstrates that Citroën is listening and ready to adapt quickly to set a new course. The good news doesn't stop there, as this upmarket move is accompanied by a significant price drop.
Revised lower prices: the competitive edge
This is perhaps the most striking surprise of the announcement: while the equipment level has been significantly increased, the prices of the Citroën C3 X are decreasing. This aggressive strategy not only reflects Citroën's determination to succeed but also the progress made in optimizing production costs through deeper localization in India. This allows the brand to offer a better value-for-money proposition, a powerful argument in this market.
Here is the new price list for the Citroën C3 X range:
Variante | Motorisation | Transmission | Prix (Roupies) | Prix indicatif (€)* |
C3 Live NA | PureTech 82 | Manuelle (5v) | 525 000 | ~ 5 770 € |
C3 Feel NA | PureTech 82 | Manuelle (5v) | 623 000 | ~ 6 850 € |
C3 Feel NA O | PureTech 82 | Manuelle (5v) | 727 000 | ~ 7 990 € |
C3 X Shine NA | PureTech 82 | Manuelle (5v) | 790 800 | ~ 8 690 € |
C3 X Shine NA Bi-ton | PureTech 82 | Manuelle (5v) | 805 800 | ~ 8 855 € |
C3 X Shine Turbo | PureTech 110 DI-Turbo | Manuelle (6v) | 910 800 | ~ 10 010 € |
C3 X Shine Turbo AT | PureTech 110 DI-Turbo | Automatique (6v) | 989 800 | ~ 10 880 € |
The Shine versions, for example, see a price reduction of ₹25,000, while the top-of-the-line Shine Turbo AT is ₹10,000 cheaper. This pricing policy places the C3 X in a very advantageous position. For comparison, its direct competitor, the Renault Kiger, has just received a minor facelift and its starting price is set at ₹6.30 lakh (approximately €6,920), making Citroën's offer particularly compelling.
Comfort and Safety: the Ppllars of the Citroën offer
Beyond the new features, the C3 X retains the core strengths of the C-Cubed platform. Comfort remains a top priority, with the Citroën Advanced Comfort suspension, known for its "flying carpet" effect that is especially well-suited to Indian roads. Its generous interior space, with best-in-class shoulder room and a practical 315-liter boot, makes it a versatile family vehicle. The tropicalized automatic climate control system, specifically designed for hot summers, ensures a consistently pleasant cabin environment.
In terms of safety, the C3 X is now one of the best-equipped in its class. In addition to the 6 airbags, it includes ESP (Electronic Stability Program), ABS with EBD, Hill Hold Assist, ISOFIX child seat mounts, a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and a perimetric alarm. This comprehensive suite provides peace of mind and effectively protects all occupants.
With the new C3 X, Citroën appears to have finally found the right formula for the Indian market. The brand has demonstrated its ability to listen and react by quickly addressing the main shortcoming of its lineup: equipment levels that were perceived as too sparse against fierce competition. By combining its unique comfort and design with a now-comprehensive technological and safety package—all at more competitive prices than ever—Citroën is giving itself the means to achieve its ambitions. This strategy, which will soon be extended to other models like the highly anticipated Basalt, could very well allow the chevron brand to climb out of the bottom of the sales charts and establish itself as a serious and credible player in India. A new, more optimistic era is dawning for Citroën on this strategic continent.
