A few weeks after its arrival on European roads, the redesigned Citroën C4 opens a new chapter in its international career by arriving in Japan. This strategic launch not only aims to strengthen the brand's presence in the Japanese archipelago, supporting the popular Berlingo, but also marks the introduction of an eagerly awaited engine: the hybrid. With this new offering, Citroën is gaining a powerful argument in the highly competitive compact sedan segment, combining distinctive style, legendary comfort and now remarkable energy efficiency.
A strategic start for Citroën in Japan
Since 27 March 2025, it's official: the new Citroën C4 is available from authorised dealers throughout Japan. This arrival is particularly significant because it marks the first time that Citroën has introduced a hybrid powertrain to this demanding market. While the C4 is already appreciated for its bold design and comfort, thanks in particular to its Progressive Hydraulic Bump Stop suspension and Advanced Comfort seats, the addition of the hybrid powertrain adds a new dimension.
Citroën's real advantage lies in the efficiency of this new powertrain, which allows the C4 Hybrid to set a new benchmark and become the most fuel-efficient imported compact sedan in its category on the Japanese market. This is a major competitive advantage in a country where energy efficiency is a key purchase criterion.
A new style for more personality.
In addition to the introduction of hybrid technology, the new C4 is also an opportunity to introduce the next generation of Citroën design in Japan, directly inspired by the "Oli" concept car presented in 2022. In a market where originality is highly valued, the front end proudly displays the new Citroën logo integrated into a distinctive black stripe that extends to the new headlights, which feature a three-segment LED lighting signature that makes the C4 instantly recognisable by day or night.
Evolution is also evident at the rear. The traditional chevron badge gives way to the "CITROËN" lettering, which adds a more prestigious and modern touch. The rear lights echo the three-segment lighting signature of the headlights, ensuring strong visual consistency. To personalise their C4, Japanese customers can choose from four body colours. In addition to the familiar Elixir Red and Okenite White, two new colours make their debut: elegant Manhattan Green and deep Eclipse Blue. This allows the C4 to further assert its unique personality on Japanese roads. In terms of pricing, the new Citroën C4 Hybrid is offered at a starting price of 4,320,000 yen, or approximately 26,200 Euros, a positioning that places it in competition with other imported offerings in the C-segment.
With this redesigned and hybridised version, the Citroën C4 enters the Japanese market with solid arguments. Its style, more personal and assertive thanks to the brand's new visual identity, allows it to stand out in a sometimes conformist automotive landscape. Comfort, Citroën's cardinal value, naturally remains at the heart of the C4 experience. But the introduction of the hybrid engine is undoubtedly the real "plus" of this new version for Japan. More than just a hybridisation, it is an offer that shines with record efficiency. By positioning itself as the most fuel-efficient imported compact sedan on the market, the C4 Hybrid is not simply following a trend, but offering a relevant and economically advantageous solution for Japanese motorists, while retaining the boldness and well-being that characterise Citroën. A promising bet for the brand's development in this key market.
