Citroën Berlingo Van: The brand's cornerstone remains UK leader in 2025

Citroën Berlingo Van

The year 2025 will be remembered as a major transition period for Citroën in the British market. While overall figures were impacted by the ongoing replacement of key models such as the C3 and C3 Aircross, whose delayed arrival slowed down registrations, the year was far from negative. The brand with the chevrons relied on its solid foundations, particularly the reliable Berlingo Van. As a true benchmark for professionals, this model finished the year at the top of its segment, proving that customer trust in Citroën’s commercial vehicles remains unshaken despite a complex industrial context.

Unstoppable commercial success for the Berlingo Van in 2025

The success of the Citroën Berlingo Van in the UK remains consistent. According to data published by the SMMT (Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders), the Berlingo Van established itself as the country's best-selling small van with a total of 9,487 units sold. This remarkable performance saw it climb to 9th position in the overall light commercial vehicle rankings and, more importantly, retain its title as the leader in the compact van segment.

The competition remained fierce, with the Berlingo narrowly beating its sibling, the Peugeot Partner, highlighting the relevance of the Stellantis platform. This leadership, already achieved in 2024, confirms the strategic importance of the model for the UK subsidiary. Popular with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and major fleet managers, the Berlingo Van benefits from an image of durability and practicality. Local manufacturing also plays a key role: the ë-Berlingo Van is produced at Ellesmere Port, the UK's first manufacturing plant dedicated exclusively to mass-producing electric vehicles. This makes Citroën, alongside other Stellantis brands, the only manufacturer to maintain large-scale light commercial vehicle production on British soil. This success in the internal combustion and professional markets now serves as a catalyst for the brand's other major development area: electrification.

A record 36% acceleration in the electric vehicle market

Alongside the Berlingo Van's dominance, 2025 marked a decisive turning point in Citroën's electrification strategy in the UK. The brand recorded a significant 36% growth in electric car sales. This increase is mainly due to the successful commercial launch of the new ë-C3 and ë-C3 Aircross, making electric mobility more accessible to a wider audience. Citroën now offers the most comprehensive range of electric commercial vehicles on the market, ranging from the Ami Cargo to the large Relay, including the ë-C3 Van and the Dispatch.

Greg Taylor, Managing Director of Citroën UK, welcomed these results:

"The Berlingo Van has been a vital vehicle for SMEs across the country for over twenty years, and I am delighted that it has taken the number one spot in 2025. The Berlingo Van is part of our five-van range, each designed to offer comfortable and practical solutions to meet the needs of businesses nationwide. The exceptional performance of the Berlingo Van and our growing electric range is a testament to how well our products meet our customers' expectations."

The near future looks equally promising with the upcoming arrival of the e-C5 Aircross, already a finalist for the prestigious European Car of the Year 2026 title. This new technological flagship is expected to reach showrooms this quarter, completing a modern, 100% electrified offering.

A mixed but ambitious 2025 outlook for 2026

In conclusion, Citroën's 2025 results in the UK present a mixed but fundamentally encouraging picture. While overall sales volume decreased, this was primarily due to production constraints and the timing of replacing high-volume models. It was not a lack of consumer interest, but rather a logistical transition challenge.

The continued success of the Berlingo Van at the top of its segment and the surge in electric vehicle sales prove that Citroën has the right products at the right time. With a range that is now fully renewed, available, and competitive, the brand enters 2026 with renewed confidence and strong growth prospects in the UK market.
