In August 2024, Citroën caused a sensation in the Indian automotive market with the launch of its new model, the Citroën Basalt. The SUV coupé not only boosted the brand's sales, but also helped Citroën gain a stronger foothold in a highly competitive market. Launched in August 2024, the Citroën Basalt has established itself as the brand's flagship model in India in its first month. With 579 units sold, the Basalt has contributed significantly to Citroën's sales growth. The report highlights that Citroën's sales have increased by 121% year-on-year, from 576 units in August 2023 to 1,275 units in August 2024. The Basalt, in particular, has attracted attention thanks to an attractive pricing strategy, a wide range of colour options and class-leading cabin comfort. This immediate success bodes well for the brand, which is fighting to increase its market share in a highly competitive environment.


Strong C3 growth

In addition to the Basalt, the Citroën C3 also contributed to sales growth. Sales of this model rose by 103% year-on-year to reach 507 units in August 2024. The new C3, with features borrowed from the Basalt, continues to compete with local rivals such as the Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS. On the other hand, the ë-C3 suffered a significant drop in sales and the Citroën C5 Aircross saw its sales drop to just one unit. These mixed results show that while the Basalt has made a significant contribution to the increase in sales, Citroën still faces significant challenges in maintaining this momentum.
