As the preliminary tests for Formula E's Season 12 kick off today at the Valencia circuit, a palpable excitement is building within the new Citroën team. The single-seater bearing the iconic chevrons will take to the track with Tatiana Calderón at the wheel, whose participation in the all-female test day has already been announced (read our dedicated article). In line with this promising momentum, developments are accelerating behind the scenes with the announcement of a major partnership: Mitsubishi Electric is joining the adventure as an official sponsor of the Citroën Racing Formula E Team. This marks a key milestone in the brand's preparation for its first season in the premier all-electric single-seater championship.
A partnership of technology and shared values
This is not Mitsubishi Electric's first venture into the world of Formula E. Seven years ago, the brand, a globally recognized leader in heating and air conditioning, was a partner of the Paris E-Prix during the 2018-2019 season. Today, it makes a significant return, not just as an event sponsor, but as a dedicated team partner. The decision to align with Citroën Racing is a deliberate one, symbolizing a shared vision for the future of sustainable and technologically advanced mobility. For Citroën, this partnership provides a solid foundation for its entry into a championship where innovation is paramount. Season 12 is set to be an intense one, with a calendar featuring 17 Grand Prix across 10 countries, starting on December 6th. These races, predominantly held on urban circuits, serve as an exceptional showcase for highlighting the growing importance of electric vehicles in our cityscapes. For Mitsubishi Electric, partnering with a team as decorated as Citroën Racing is a prime opportunity for visibility, aimed at strengthening its brand recognition over the long term.
"Electric Race": a nationaltour to celebrate the partnership
To bring this collaboration to life and share it with its network, Mitsubishi Electric is launching a large-scale promotional campaign in France called "Electric Race." This exceptional roadshow, running from October 23rd to December 19th, will feature over 100 dates across the country. It is primarily aimed at the brand's professional installers, clients, and prospects, who will have the chance to immerse themselves in the world of Formula E at events hosted by partner distributors. At the heart of these events, two professional racing simulators with curved screens will allow participants to experience the thrill of racing and compete virtually. The experience will be elevated for the most skilled drivers: the top eight racers from each region will be invited to a grand finale at Citroën Racing's headquarters, where they will have the unique privilege of competing against a real team driver. In addition, a major contest for professional clients will run from October 6th to June 30th, offering a chance to win one of 300 tickets to the E-Prix in Mexico City, Madrid, Berlin, or the iconic Monaco E-Prix. Other prizes include driving courses, scale models of the cars and helmets, and official Citroën Racing merchandise.
A promising new era for Citroën
Citroën's entry into Formula E is more than just a sporting commitment; it is a symbol of renewed ambition. This return to the pinnacle of global motorsport, in a discipline firmly focused on the future, is a tremendous opportunity for the French brand. It will not only enhance its visibility on the international stage but also provide a spectacular platform to showcase its electric vehicle range and technological expertise. Furthermore, this attractive racing program enables the brand to forge strategic partnerships with leading global players, as evidenced by this collaboration with Mitsubishi Electric. The excitement is therefore high, as this new chapter promises to be as thrilling off the track as it is on it.
