The double chevron brand never ceases to surprise with its ability to link its industrial destiny with prestigious and historic French national institutions. As part of the celebrations surrounding the 400th anniversary of the French Navy (Marine Nationale), Citroën recently partnered with the military institution for a major collaboration. This strategic and memorial alliance was first brought to life on May 30th through the manufacturer’s active participation in the youth outreach days called "Jeunesse & Territoires au large". Today, this shared journey reaches a spectacular new milestone with the official presentation of an exclusive show car developed on the technical basis of the all-new C3 Aircross. This unique vehicle visually embodies the values of resilience, protection, and team spirit shared by both the carmaker and the naval forces.
A premium alliance: the genesis of the C3 Aircross Marine Nationale
This singular project came to life at the very heart of the brand's creation and engineering center, inside the Citroën Design Center based in Poissy. Imagined in close consultation with French Navy officers and teams, this show car was developed with a clear intention: to give a concrete, modern, and character-driven face to an exceptional institutional partnership. This unique vehicle was designed as a symbolic bridge between land and sea, uniting two worlds that have shared a deep sense of service to the population and crew spirit for decades.
To serve as the foundation for this stylistic exploration, the brand's design teams immediately selected the latest generation of the Citroën C3 Aircross. This technical and marketing choice was natural, given the generous proportions and inherently robust architecture of this compact SUV. Capable of carrying up to seven people within a contained length of 4.40 meters, this model perfectly embodies maximum interior space, versatility, and affordability. By transforming this multi-energy production vehicle into an adventurer built for extreme conditions, the designers aimed to showcase the total adaptability of the lineup when handling demanding assistance missions.
A rugged exterior design built for adventure and the mission
At first glance, the exterior of this unique model commands attention, conveying a feeling of absolute strength through extensively redesigned protective features. The bodywork adopts an exclusive storm blue finish, a deep matte blue evoking the power of the ocean, while the roof features a glossy bright light gray that subtly recalls the hull colors of warships and sea foam. The front and rear bumpers have been entirely redesigned with more massive vertical and horizontal lines, visually enhancing the SUV's stability on all types of terrain.
Specific stylistic details abound, paying direct tribute to the world of sailors. The fog lights feature original protective slats that evoke the vintage signal lamps once used to communicate in Morse code from ship to ship. The vehicle sits on specific 17-inch wheels, wrapped in impressive 275 mm wide knobbed tires, ensuring optimal traction in hostile environments. On the roof, a massive rack securely attached to the longitudinal bars was specially designed to transport technical equipment for Navy divers. This roof basket features chevron patterns that mirror the rank insignia of petty officers, all finished in an ultra-resistant textured black paint. Finally, the towing hooks are shaped like naval mooring cleats, while InfraRed straps replace the traditional color clips of the civilian version. The look is completed by a tricolor cockade featuring a marine anchor, proudly displayed on the rear C-pillar.
An immersive cabin inspired by life on board submarines
Opening the doors of this show car reveals a carefully crafted interior that extends the narrative experience developed on the outside. The work on colors and materials involved extensive research to combine the brand's legendary comfort with military rigor. The InfraRed color signature, central to the brand's new visual identity, is found in precise touches on the central logo at the heart of the steering wheel, creating a striking contrast with the dark dashboard surfaces.
The real surprise in this cabin lies in its nighttime light and thermal treatment. At dusk, the entire interior is bathed in a deep red ambient light. This technical configuration is a direct nod to the tactical lighting systems used on board submarines on active duty, allowing crews to preserve their night vision and maintain a stable biological rhythm during long submersions. The seat backs feature an exclusive treatment with a light gray technical fabric on the upper sections, specially developed to reflect this red light in a theatrical way. The seat cushions incorporate a neat geometric embossing that maximizes comfort, while specific badges made of soft PVC, inspired by athletic sportswear codes, add exclusivity to the front seats. A subtle blue, white, and red border underlines the dashboard structure, completing a highly immersive interior atmosphere.
The long-term partnership initiated between the French carmaker and the naval forces expands dramatically with the presentation of this C3 Aircross-based show car. By adopting an assertive style that amplifies its native ruggedness along with meticulous finishing details, this unique model shows a brand-new face, fully prepared to tackle the toughest paths in service of its protective mission. This original creation seals a beautiful fusion between the world of the Navy and Citroën's creative universe, proving that automobiles can still draw inspiration from heroic narratives to captivate the public while honoring four centuries of French military history.
