Citroën Berlingo: aqua green returns exclusively to the japanese market

2025 Citroën Berlingo Vert Aqua

As a true pillar of sales for the double chevron brand in Asia, the Citroën Berlingo continues to write its success story across the Japanese archipelago. A crucial model for Citroën’s volumes in Japan, this leisure activity vehicle (LAV) has conquered a demanding audience thanks to its unique blend of practicality and French style. While the brand recently revitalized the lineup with a special series marking the return of the iconic XTR badge, the model's momentum is accelerating towards the end of the year. To respond to growing local customer demand, the Berlingo is adopting a new, exclusive body color not currently offered in Europe, confirming the strategic importance of this market for the French manufacturer.

The popular return of aqua green: a japanese market exclusive

The major news for the Citroën Berlingo in Japan lies in the enrichment of its color palette with the introduction—or rather, the grand return—of the "Aqua Green" shade. This color, which made a lasting impression in the past, returns to the spotlight as a special edition color.

This colorimetric choice is no accident. Aqua Green is described as a soft, refreshing, and distinctive pastel shade that highlights the French elegance and quirky character often sought by Japanese customers in a Citroën. This color gives the vehicle a charming and accessible allure, contrasting with the more conventional shades often seen in this segment.

Available for order at authorized dealerships across Japan since Thursday, November 20th, this new hue is not reserved for a niche selection. Citroën has chosen to offer it across a wide part of the range. It is thus available on standard models in both 5 and 7-seater versions, namely the "BERLINGO MAX BlueHDi" and its extended version, the "BERLINGO LONG MAX BlueHDi."

Even more interestingly, this color also integrates with the adventure-oriented series. Customers opting for the "BERLINGO MAX BlueHDi XTR Grip Control Package" and "BERLINGO LONG MAX BlueHDi XTR Grip Control Package" versions will also be able to select this finish. This comeback is the direct result of strong customer demand calling for this specific visual signature, proving the attachment of Japanese drivers to this singular aesthetic, which highlights the new generation design featuring the brand's new logo.

The Berlingo in Japan: a revamped range and enriched XTR trims

Since its initial launch on Japanese soil in 2020, the Citroën Berlingo has established itself as a benchmark for families and outdoor leisure enthusiasts. Its success relies on a proven recipe: accessible design, generous storage space unrivaled in its category, and impeccable road handling stemming from the brand's chassis expertise.

However, the current year marks a significant evolution for the model. Restyled last October, the Berlingo received a favorable reception thanks to its modernized front end integrating Citroën's new visual identity. But it is primarily the introduction of the XTR trim that is boosting sales.

The "BERLINGO MAX BlueHDi XTR Grip Control" special series, announced last September, represents the pinnacle of this evolution. It emphasizes comfort and versatility, two values dear to the brand. Inside, the cabin stands out with the adoption of Advanced Comfort seats, a technology exclusive to Citroën. Thanks to thick padding and an optimized shape, these seats offer support and softness comparable to a sofa, significantly reducing fatigue during long journeys.

Aesthetically and technically, this special series has plenty of assets. It benefits from 17-inch wheels, reinforced front and rear protection, a dashboard with specific coloring, and colored accents on the famous Air Bumps, all enhanced by the XTR badge. Above all, it integrates the Grip Control system. This equipment allows the vehicle's traction to be adapted via four distinct modes (Normal, Snow, Mud, and Sand), ensuring safe driving regardless of weather conditions—an undeniable asset for Japanese clientele fond of nature escapades.

The addition of the Aqua Green color to the Japanese Berlingo range is much more than a simple cosmetic adjustment. This exclusivity testifies to Citroën's ability to listen to its community and adapt its offer to local specificities. By reintroducing a color acclaimed in the past, combined with the recent technical and aesthetic updates of the XTR versions, the brand is equipping itself to consolidate its position. It is a strategy that allows the Citroën Berlingo to maintain its appeal and potentially conquer new customers looking for a vehicle that is practical, comfortable, and endowed with a strong stylistic personality.
